    Bitstream Outputs As Stereo ONLY

I'm thoroughly confused and frustrated with this one. Here's the lowdown:

Moved into a new house and had to redo all my entertainment stuff. Wired the room up, plugged everything in, and I can no longer get true digital surround to work properly.

    Receiver: Onkyo RT-340 (5.1 digital)

    Connection to XBox: Optical cable

Audio setting on the Xbox: Bitstream out

TV and Oneguide: Audio is set to surround

I am using the SAME EXACT settings that I used at my old house, yet inexplicably, the XBox is sending the digital audio in STEREO. There is no front/back separation and the center channel is not being used. I can confirm that the digital signal is being
sent by the lit icon on my receiver (DTS or Dolby Digital). To make this even more odd, I can get partial decoding by switching the Bitstream Out to "stereo uncompressed." If I do that, the receiver now utilizes the center and rear channels; this isn't a
true digital signal though, so it's not desired.

It was a few months since I hooked up my system again, so there has been an XBox update, and I'm sure settings have been fiddled with in the meantime. What can I be missing here? Why does bitstream suddenly only want to decode as pure stereo instead of
surround? I've checked my receiver, and it definitely has all 6 speakers active. I am utterly confused.

    Please help, and thank you!

    :)

Similar issues here, uncompressed only gives stereo output even when setting to uncompressed 5.1.. Setting to bitstream 5.1 works fine. Use to be fine until recent update

  3. No bitstream out

I no longer seem to get any output via HDMI bitstream. I run the sound via HDMI into my LG telly and from there, via optical, into my surround receiver. Until recently I've had no trouble getting Dolby 5.1 passed through to the receiver. Now, bitstream doesn't
seem to output anything. It's not the TV, or the AV receiver.

Please fix this! As it stands I can only get uncompressed audio out of my Xbox and, therefore, only stereo through the optical cable into my receiver. I can play in stereo, but I'd rather be using the surround I've had until recently.

Any chance of trying HDMI? You could run 5.1 uncompressed which would be a better quality than the encoded audio. If you don't want to do that, then your options with bitstream would be DTS Digital Surround or Dolby Digital like you said. If it's not working
and it did before I would double check the settings on your receiver. From the Xbox side there really aren't a whole lot of different settings to try. I would also suggest double checking the optical cable, or even trying a different optical cable if you have
    one. Also see

Well, I may have an explanation, and it's slightly embarrassing. Tested some more and I think the real issue was that the acoustics of the room are just drastically different from the home I was in before, and it's been a full year since I had the system
hooked up. It's a much larger room with a hardwood floor, wood walls and a cathedral ceiling, whereas I previously had the surround system in a smaller room with a popcorn ceiling, drywall, and carpet. I had a false positive the other day because one of
the sources I was trying was a Netflix show that unknowingly was broadcast in stereo (Community). Switched to another show (Dr. Who) that broadcasts in 5.1, and sure enough, it was working as expected.

    Thank you for the help!

    Audio troubles

There is no "HDMI stereo" output option, there's "Stereo uncompressed", "5.1 uncompressed", "7.1 uncompressed" and "Bitstream out" in the manual and in online reviews it says the monitor has built in 2w speakers.

Still no Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround after update

Dolby Digital is surround sound. There is a separate option for stereo audio on the optical output. I can definitely tell a difference between stereo and surround with my A40s, and the bitstream Dolby Digital is definitely surround.
