Birthday question won't let me enter anything but the year

During my initial set up I have to log into my microsoft account to get my gamertag on the xbox one. It asks for my email, then for my password, then for my name, then for my last name, and finally for my birthday. On the birthday question it wants the year,
month, and day, and beside that is a next button. There is a keypad on screen for me to use to input letters, numbers or whatever. The only buttons that allow me to change anything are the numbers 1 and 2, and it only lets me change the year part or the question.
There is no ability to move over to month, day, or next. Only to use the numbers 1 and 2 to filter through different year selections. When hitting the menu or enter button I get a message right below the year box saying, "this information is required". I have
been trying to figure this out for 5 hours now by myself and by methods xbox support told me to do and nothing has got me any closer to answering this stupid question that is stopping me from literally doing anything on my xbox.

Stuck on Xbox One S startup

I am stuck on the Xbox One S startup screen where it asks me for my birthday. I can select the month but it won't let me hover over the day or year. I've tried pressing B but nothing happens.

 

Instead of doing it on your console, set your date of birth in your Live/Hotmail/Outlook account via
http://account.live.com

Then log in to your console using that same account.

 

Once you've entered the day, press B and it will let you select the month and year
