    Billing & Payment issue - Expire card used to renew


    Hello all,

    Just to let you know I have rung the customer service with no success, they advised I tweet the Xbox support (and I have since received a response to call the customer service who said tweet Xbox support!) as well as search this forum, please help as I'm
    going round in circles!

    I had auto renew on my account switched in.

    I hadn't updated my card details and the card had expired.

    On the 17th July L: 2017 Xbox gold renewed and charged the card that had expired and it appeared to be a successful renewal.

    I logged into Xbox Live 22nd July L: 2017 and Xbox Live seemed to still be working.

    I removed the expired card 22nd July L: 2017.

    I added a new card 22nd July L: 2017.

    I cancelled my Xbox Live 22nd July L: 2017.

    I'm worried that I'm going to receive a refund and I shouldn't get one as I'm not due one as an expired card had been used to renew.

    I'm also worried I may be charged or incur a charge that's accumulating in the background, further down the line, for example do I need to pay for the 6 days (17th July to 22nd July
    L: 2017?).

    Hopefully you can out my mind at ease!

    How to Renew your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership

    Overview of Xbox LIVE Renewal

    When your current Xbox LIVE Gold Membership is about to run out, you will get a renewal message on your screen.

    • Month-to-month membership- Notification comes 15 days in advance
    • 3 or 12 month membership- Notification comes 30 days in advance
    Xbox LIVE membership can be renewed using a credit card, a debit card, or a Prepaid Gold Membership Card.

    If your automatic membership renewal (auto renewal) is set to off, you can purchase a new subscription or use a prepaid membership card to renew your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership.

    Renew with a payment option by purchasing a new membership:

    Steps to Follow

    1) Use your Xbox LIVE gamertag to sign in.

    2) Under Settings, select Account.

    3) Proceed to Your Memberships, and select the membership that you currently have (for example Xbox LIVE Gold)

    4) Select Modify Membership and you will be presented with a list of renewal options. If you are on an Xbox LIVE Free Membership, you can choose to upgrade to Gold Membership.

    5) Select a membership option, then Confirm Purchase.

    Once you have confirmed your purchase, the following will happen:

    • The payment option you are using will be charged immediately.
    • The time subscription plan you have just purchased will be added to your remaining subscription time.
    • Your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership will be activated and auto renewal turned on.
    Take note:

    If you use a credit card as your payment option, you cannot remove it on file until your current membership expires.

    There is a procedure you can follow to add or change your Xbox LIVE payment option.

    Renew with a prepaid membership card

    It is possible to renew your Xbox LIVE membership using a Prepaid Microsoft Gold Membership Card. This card is available at retail locations.

    If you choose to redeem a prepaid Xbox LIVE membership code, you will be added time to your existing Xbox LIVE membership, while your renewal settings will remain unchanged.

    How to turn on auto renewal (for existing membership):

    If you are already on Xbox LIVE Gold of Family Pack membership and you want to turn on auto renewal without purchasing new membership, you should contact Xbox Support.

    How to Troubleshoot Xbox LIVE renewal:

    If there are issues with your Xbox LIVE account, you might receive the following messages. The solutions are provided below:

    • Error: Your credit card has been declined several times by our billing service.
    This means that your credit card has expired, or the information on it has been changed. To solve this problem, there is a procedure you can follow to change payment option for Xbox LIVE membership.

    • Error: 8015d080
    In case you receive this error message, you need to contact Xbox Support.

    Hi!

    Do you currently have a month-to-month billing plan for Xbox Live? If so, you'll have to turn off auto-renew and let the monthly billing plan expire before you can add a prepaid card.

    Do you currently owe anything for missed month-to-month payments?

    Why have I got an Urgent update payment infomatin notification on xboxone?

    Payment not due for a while and is on auto renewal, funds are not an issue.

    And card doesnt expire for several years.

    Please try to edit your payment options by visiting Microsoft's alternative billing site
    here.

    This type of issue usually occurs when you have an invalid/expired card on file coupled with automatic renewal being turned on. If Microsoft sees that the card is either expired or invalid, or they try to charge the card for renewal fees then you run into this
    sort of issue. You should be able to solve it by simply adding a new payment method and replacing it with the old method. You won't be able to remove the payment method until you actually add a new one as it's currently tied to an active gold subscription.

    here. Click Billing & Memberships, under Manage Payment Options click Edit Credit Card, or Add Credit Card and then finally select Request a Call.

    I understand that you're having trouble renewing your subscription. For us to isolate the issue further, try to update your Microsoft account billing information/address by signing your account on account.microsoft.com > Payment and Billing > address book.

    NOTE: Make sure that the billing information from your card and your Microsoft account are exactly matched.

    Then try to renew the subscription.

    If it still doesn't work, renew the subscription using different browsers and devices such as a mobile phone, Windows PC, or laptop.

    If the above steps didn't work, you may need to reach out to your bank and update your payment card since you have mentioned that your payment card is already expired.

    As for an alternative option, you can use a different payment method by signing your account on account.microsoft.com > Payment and billing > payment option.

    Or you can also purchase an Xbox gift card and redeem the codes on your account.microsoft.com then use the Microsoft credits to renew the subscription.

    removing a payment option

    In order to remove your payment method from your XBOX Live account 3 conditions need to be met.

    • Automatic Renewal needs to be turned off. To learn how to do this click
      here
      .
    • Your account cannot have an XBOX Live Gold Subscription on it.
    • You cannot have any sort of billing/payment violations on the account (ie: past due payments/expired credit card)
    If your card is expired, you will need to add a new payment method before being able to remove the old expired card.
