Better than all the rest?

What generation of consoles/games do you think is the best?

I personally think the PS3/360 generation is the best due to the fact that my 4 out of 5 of my favourite games of all time were released in that generation.

The games are listed below.

Tales of Graces F (PS3)

Ni No Kuni : Wrath of the White Witch (PS3)

Disgaea 4 (PS3)

Bayonetta (360)

And the game not in that generation was Metroid Prime (GC) - ( but it was also on the Wii Trilogy disk (which was the same generation as PS3/360) but the controls were. It as good as the original).

Same here, I'm really loving it! One of the best games on Xbox One this year

 

I missed the edit slot, it was supposed to read the Wii controls were not as good as the GC version of Metroid Prime.

[/quote]Makes sense, I personally think the games that made me giggle with excitement and kept me engrossed through multiple playthroughs are my favourite and most of them happened last gen.

 

I think the fact I keep buying these HD collections is telling of what generation I preferred...

 

It would also be interesting if people would name their top 5 games from their favourite generation...

 

Sega Genesis-Charles Barkley's Shut Up and Jam and EA's Desert Strike series was amazing.Chakan was also a favorite and Joe Montana Football 95 was incredible.Much better than Madden.

 

I'm gonna go with Gen 5 (PSX, N64 era). Most of my most memorable moments in gaming were from that era and I remember them fondly.

• Playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time. Became one of my favorite franchises ever.
  
• Donkey Kong 64 & Banjo Kazooie. Sunk so many hours in both those platformers. I'm saddened they don't make them that way anymore.
  
• Shooting my friends on the face in either Goldeneye 007 or
  Perfect Dark.
• Honorable mention: Crash Bandicoot franchise.

The newer generations of games haven't pulled my heart strings as much as Gen 5 did, with maybe the exception of Gen 6 (PS2, Xbox, GC era). Notable mentions from this era are discovering
Kingdom Hearts, Kojima making me cry in Metal Gear Solid 3 and played my very first Final Fantasy game:
FFX about…4 years after it's release. Never finished it, too...

 

Hard to tell. I played like 10~20 games max on previous console generations. Now on the 360 I have close to 300 games. I probably didn't play as much before as I do now, but I can't help but feel that games used to hold my attention a lot longer than they
do now. Whether it has to do with age or quality of games, I'm not entirely sure. Probably a combination of both.

I can hardly choose a specific generation though. NES, N64/PS, Gamecube/PS2 and Xbox360 all have some really great games. But for the sake of this topic, I'll pick one. N64/PS. Games: Goldeneye, Zelda:OoT, Crash Bandicoot, Perfect Dark, Super Mario 64.



Simply the best.

 

Playstation 1 hands down had the best games for me. Some I still go back and play to this day.

#3 Syphon Filter

#4 Final Fantasy VII

#5 SoulBlade

With honorable mentions for Dino Crisis, Legend of Legaia, Thousand Arms, Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style, Breath of Fire 3, FFVIII, FFIX, Beyond The Beyond, Tomba and Grandia.

 

I don´t know why people like the old gens, they are old.

I always go for the lasted one since they are new and can do more fun stuff.

Nostalgia is nice but not when its about my gaming and stuff.

I always want the new toys.

When I look back at all the consoles you named here I have NO need to go back to any of it.

I can´t say which one is best since none of them is best.

I favor Xbox and PC.

As much as a fan of the classics as i am i have to go with last gen as my favorite of all time...i have a lot of love for my 360. Last gen brought me some amazing games and still finding some not to mention i have a ton of the very same classics i loved
ages ago.The 360 is my true all in one console. It's amazing to me that i can play an amazing game like Sleeping Dogs but switch to Final Fight or Streets of Rage should i choose to.
