Bethesda Games Not Working (GamePass PC)

I've been GP Ultimate subscriber for a while. Recently tried some games on my PC. Everything works fine (Hades, Myst, Psychonauts 2 in recent memory). But Bethesda games (two I've tried so far) just refuse to work. Wolfenstein New Collossus just sits there on the screen, won't accept any inputs, neither from the keyboard or the Xbox gamepad. Downloaded and reinstalled twice, same behaviour. Wolfenstein The New Order just gets stuck on the "loading profile settings" message forever. Tries the same uninstall/routine a few times. No effect. Tried alternating between the Xbox app and MS Store for installs. Still no change.

Also, yes, Windows is up to date, as are all drivers etc. I checked the event viewer because of this, and it throws Error 1016 (Distributed COM) for those time stamps. Application settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application. With a mention of Microsoft.Gamin.App.... also in there. Distributed COM errors are all too common in WIndows anyway, but I'm afraid these specific games have something to do with this (as the Microsoft.Gaming.App is mentioned). Any help is appreciated.

I can play Beth titles on my Xbox just fine, but this issue on the PC is just extremely annoying. No other game does this,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I have reset the app installs for Xbox and MS Store already. Those didn't help. Most steps you've outlined for services point to a problem which should have affected all games. It didn't. In fact, I installed Ascent after posting this, and it works fine. They all log me in and load my profile/cloud saves just fine.

I keep my PC healthy with regular DISM and sfc checks anyway...but I'll give the upgrade option a try with the installation media anyway and report back. If not, I'll try Bethesda support.

I had a similar problem playing Age of Empires 1 or 2, I think. Sometimes, some games just don't work. I know it's disappointing, but I just moved on to the next game. Perhaps the most annoying part is, the issue happens on one computer and does not on another.

Yes, of course, try troubleshooting, visiting forums and such. Ultimately, it might wiser to just move on to the game. Try after a month or so, they may have fixed the issues.

Like you, I usually end up switching to the Xbox (PC is where majority of problems are), and playing the game on that. You could just do that.

About the problem you are having, I recommend that you try the solutions below.

Solution 1:

Open RegEdit as an administrator and delete the following Services:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet]

PC reboot

Install gaming service like you would normally

Solution 2:

Go to your windows settings, go to the tab>applications and resources>Search for Gaming Services, click on it, go to advanced options, and tap repair.

*If it doesn't work, try the alternative below.

Download the Create Windows 10 installation media application from the link below, at the end of the download run the application, and then follow the instructions given by the program at the end click on upgrade. Rest assured none of your files will be lost, this is a system restore that will try to fix this error.

it is cross play between bethesda launcher, windows gamepass and steam, no other platforms. so basically pc platforms only.
