Being Taxed Twice To Buy Something on the Marketplace

I recently decided to buy a game from the marketplace, but it said I was short because of taxes. Normally I would not mind this, except when I realized I was being taxed twice for the same purchase. I was taxed the first time when I bought the gift card,
then a second time when I tried to use it. Before the switch from MSP I would be taxed once on purchases, I believe as a consumer it is fair to be taxed once.

:)

Why MS Points made more sense than Local Currency! What do you think?

To clarify we are not going to be required to use a Credit Card. We will be able to buy Microsoft GIft Cards at retail. Whether or not these are taxed and then our purchases are taxed is yet to be determined. Also the reason why we are not being taxed as
of yet is because if you make purchases with any points that were converted into currency they are exempt from the tax with purchase rule...

-

Obviously this is good for now but eventually our points will expire (June 1st 2015) and we will be forced to abide by any new tax laws Microsoft imposes such as being taxed twice with every purchase (Once for buying the card and once for making a purchase)...

-

Obviously then the best choice would be credit card although I am against the use of it however this could mean being only taxed once not twice. This is all assuming we even get taxed if we purchase an "Xbox Gift Card"... I hope this clears up any misconceptions
as this is what I have got out of the articles I have read.

Marketplace Fairness Act

I already get taxed on marketplace purchases. Usually when I buy points(not buy with points) or a game on demand. Might be due to living in Taxachusetts also known as Massachusetts.

Um you are only taxed once you aren't taxed when buying gift cards that's part of international laws

You get the exact amount you pay for in the gift card so there is no tax on gift card purchases

The currency will only be taxed At the time of purchase of the dlc

Unless you mean prepaid dlc codes from game stop those cards were probably made before the transition to currency

Then that would be on the old points system which took taxes into consideration

5. I was just taxed twice by buying the Destiny Expansion Pass thru GameStop. The GameStop website, and the emailed invoice, said I purchased a download code; $35.00 plus tax. However, when I redeemed the code, I was credited only $35.00, and when I purchased
the Pass I was charged $34.99 plus tax. So, after being in contact with both GameStop and Microsoft, it seems GameStop was only selling a gift card for the amount that would cover the Destiny Expansion Pass purchase; not a direct download code. So is this
legal to charge tax on the Live Currency (a gift card)? And as the Microsoft Support suggested why would you ever buy a gift card or Live Currency (especially from GameStop), when you should just purchase everything via the Market Place? BTW, the link from
the Destiny website, to purchase the Expansion Pass, to the Microsoft Store is broken, so only the GameStop option is available.

So about the "Microsoft Account" balance...
Every transaction for everything you buy is taxed. It's what the Government does. Why is this surprising to you?
A lot of people are just starting to learn that with MS Points, the Tax was paid from the Transaction of the purchase of the Points themselves and not from the purchase of Content from the Marketplace.

Now that a created monetary system (not cash/ MS Points) no longer exist, Tax is paid on each and every purchase. The US can't Tax MS Points because they were not cash and were considered Product/ Service/ Goods in itself.

So much for MS Points being "bad". Just wait until the entire Internet figures it out. Watch the tirade explode. The only thing I'm wondering (and waiting for) is if Tax will be paid at purchase for "Cash Cards" that apply to Xbox LIVE. Will this mean I get
taxed twice now? Once at a register buying the Card (as a Product/ Goods or Service) and one more time when I purchase Digital Content? Yet to be seen.
