Being fingerprinted to trade in used games?

The statement I made about fake ID's was based my experience as a teenager. It doesn't matter if you never used one. If you never knew someone who did, that makes me think you didn't have many friends.

And it wouldn't take a "CSI grade computer" to do anything. If a fingerprint has been forcefully distorted, it would be as obvious as you introducing me to your dog and me saying "Um, that's actually a cat"

And as far as Gamestop policy to hold things for 30 days? No. According to my good friend who is a very knowledgeable Gamestop employee, games are cleaned and put out for sale immediately. Only consoles, phones, and tablets are sent to a warehouse to have
their harddrives wiped before being shipped back to be sold immediately. I don't think you have any experience in store protocol.

I always find it funny how a lot of people "think" they know what they're talking about when it comes to Gamestop. I've worked at Gamestop for a while now. The fingerprinting is for the larger cities where crime rate is higher than other cities. It doesn't
check your background history. The fingerprinting is mostly used to catch people whole try to trade in items that are reported stolen and have serial numbers, i.e. tablets, consoles, and cell phones. Those are the items that get you the most money.

  3. I don't much care about them having my finger prints as I had my share of run ins with the law growing up so I already know I am in my county's system. However I probably would still refuse giving them my fingerprint
on the bases that they have no right to ask for it for a trade. What they are doing is wrong and by definition illegal GameStop retailers do not meet the law requirements to fingerprint people. Saying that the local police are cool it doesn't make it ok using
that logic I guess I could go outside and put a bullet in the first person I see and be like " it's cool man that local cop say I could".

Some of you guys are overreacting in my opinion. Like I said before, we don't check background history. We're not going to look someone up every time a fingerprint is scanned.

  5. I'm not overreacting to anything. It doesn't matter if their just taking it and storing it for latter use if the need arises or if they are doing a full background check. The point is they have no right to do it from a legal stand point. If they want to
do this then they need to make sure they are fully in their right to do it and make sure they meet the law requirements to implement it and not just have the local police stating the "they think it's a good idea and they are cool with it" that's not the role
for police they are enforcers plain and simple . I'm sorry I am not the type of guy that will just sit back and let people walk over my rights if I know what they are doing is wrong and against the law I will voice my opinion and I will do so very loudly.

I just spend a good amount of time trying to look this up. I can't find anywhere that says it's against the law. Could you go ahead and link that to us please?

  7. Come on Sword I expect better from you....... I take it you didn't see my initial post on Page 2.

GameStop Fingerprint Policy Abolished In Philadelphia

This was taken from that page.

“We thought it was something we should do,” says GameStop spokesperson Joey Mooring, adding that the request for fingerprints originally came from the Philadelphia Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. “We always like to cooperate with local authorities.
But we are no longer doing the fingerprints. We have gone back to the normal policy, which requires a name and photo ID.”

Originally, there was some question about whether GameStop was required to do the fingerprinting to comply with city pawnbroker laws. But upon further examination of those laws, they learned that wasn't the case. "We realized that we really didn't fall under
    those laws," says Mooring.

And City Solicitor Shelley Smith agrees with that assessment.

"What GameStop does doesn’t meet any of the elements of the definition in the code, so the pawnbreaker ordinance doesn’t apply to GameStop," she told

    KYW
last week when news first broke of the new fingerprinting policy.

Apparently the police can ask any retailer to do this but as GameStop doesn't meet the requirements of the ordinance. Someone could technically pursue this legally if they wanted to.

Being fingerprinted to trade in used games?

My Gamestop will probably never do it. I don't live in a major city, but I don't think my customers would mind if we started finger printing. I know I wouldn't mind. I rarely trade stuff in, but It wouldn't bother me.

  9. ^^ lol that's pretty naïve you may not have a problem with teenagers as they wouldn't know any better but I wouldn't count on that mentality with the more mature customers or the parents of the kids that come into the store with them.

Come on Bullets, I expected better from you. You're claiming that this process of finger printing is illegal. I asked you to provide proof of that. What you just posted is proof that it is not. According to link you so graciously provided, it has been made
clear that Gamestop is not required by law to scan fingerprints.

Which means that it's an extra step Gamestop can take upon themselves, should they so choose. No where does it explicitly state that it is illegal. Which should be painfully obvious anyway considering the practice is still in effect. No one is required to
    provide their fingerprints.

If you try to sell some games and see their finger print scanner, it is your prerogative if you want to simply turn around and walk away. No one is going to tackle you and force your hand on to the scanner. By holding out your hand and placing your thumb
on the scanner, you are giving consent under no duress to have your fingerprint taken. That is a choice you are free to make for yourself.

Save your "I know my rights" crap for your lawyer. You sound like a petty criminal.

  11. If gamestops day to day activities dont meet the law's requirment to take those extra steps which they cleary do not how can you possibly think it's ok. After further examination of the law gamestop even admits that it doesn't apply to them and becuase of
that they stopped qsking for fingerprints becuase of that fact. They didnt say ohh noo our customers are mad at us we better stop no they stopped becuase that's law for that type of action simply does not aply to them. Also I never stated that the process
itself is ilegal the law in question was put into effect for pawnshops or any store that meets the requirments. Gamestop doesn't and therfore should be able to do it.

sorry if its hard to read im on my tablet.

How can I possibly think it's okay for a business to take extra steps to prevent theft and the sale of stolen goods? Really? Yeah, in certain areas they stopped doing it because they were not required to. Not because they were not allowed to. And what? You
never stated the process itself is illegal?

"I know what they are doing is wrong and against the law I will voice my opinion and I will do so very loudly."

Gamestop has the right to run their business however they see fit. In the same way that you have the right to not shop there. There are plenty of options for trading in games if you don't want to use Gamestop. But no, you demand that they accept your business
while not requiring you to adhere to the individual store policies? Get real dude.

  13. Being fingerprinted to trade in used games?

Whatever man the law in question doesnt apply to gamestop they even admitted to that so yes if gamestop requested my fingerprints I'd kindly tell them to f$@k off and go else where. Also way to take bits and peices of what I actully said to make it sounds
different I believe there should be an "if" somewhere in that quote and that statment was in regards to gamestop using that said law not the law itself and no gamestop cannot run their buisness hiw they see fit they have to adhere to the laws and regulations
which they so kindly over looked when they started this ridiculous fingerprint process though they quickly rectified it once they knew they were in the wrong.

lol Explain to me how your little "if" changes the content of your statement? I get it, you made a bold statement that was easily refuted and now you want to backpedal to make it seem like you were being hypothetical. Too bad the statement you were making
is clear and you made it more than once. Nice try, though.

It goes without saying that any business must adhere to laws and regulations. So if there is no law or regulation specifically stating they are prohibited from engaging in a certain practice, then they are free to run their business however they see fit.
Rather pathetic that I needed to explain that.

Once again, a company can ask anything they want of you. It's entirely your choice if you want to comply with their request. And considering the fact I have never once seen a person walk in to a Gamestop with games in hand, and turn around walk out when
asked to submit the thumb print, this is obviously a non-issue. Unless of course you're a criminal with something to hide.
