Being fingerprinted to trade in used games?

I see no harm if you're a stand up citizen that has never broken the law and has no intention on doing so, just don't go on some crime sprees in the future after trading your games in. Also seeing how video games and consoles etc are high targets for theft
these days, it makes sense to nab people that are trying to unload the stolen goods at these stores.

    :)

    Disappointed With Recent Update

@roofus And allowing that curbs trade-ins naturally but I guess 1 copy being used between 10 people with a few restrictions is better than 1 copy traded between 100s of people with no restrictions...

I tend to wait for a trade bonus at my local game-stop before I trade my games in I used to be a game hoarder also but I got tired of looking at games that I never play or games that I lend out to friends and never get back so now I trade everything when
I am done playing them. I know you don't get alot with the trade value being horrible at game-stops but knowing that I never play the game anyway and that it is helping me get a new game I am OK with it.

Being fingerprinted to trade in used games?

I have mixed feelings about this. I was arrested for medication withdrawals so my prints would be in a database no matter what. The problem I have is does that automatically mean my games are stolen? Who is to say that games are in fact stolen and how would
a fingerprint prove or disprove its stolen or un-stolen status.

Obviously they aren't going to see someone has a record and automatically declare your games must be stolen. I'm not sure how you could even come to that conclusion. Clearly the purpose of this is so that if games do turn out to be stolen, they'll have irrefutable
proof of who the culprit is.

But it serves as more of a deterrent than anything. Unless a person is a flat out moron, they'll be less likely to hock stolen games someplace that has their finger prints on file. The Gamestop's here in Orlando have been doing this for a while now. I see
no reason to have a problem with it.

Wow, I think that is definitely overboard, I haven't heard of anything like this before. It makes sense but is still sort of scary.

So... Does GameStop not already require ID's for trade-ins? I honestly can't remember since I've only traded in one thing... That was my launch PS4 because it had a really loud fan. They had a deal last month that allowed me to trade in my launch PS4 for
a brand new one for a grand total of just under $2.50, so I gladly did so and extended my warranty by about 7 months while also getting a PS4 that didn't have a faulty fan.

I suppose I could understand this for those that don't have ID. Otherwise it's a bit much and (as if I needed another one) yet another reason I'll never take a game to GameStop.

You can have a fake ID. You can't have a fake fingerprint.

I guess maybe it depends on the state since I'm not familiar with all 50, but I know it's pretty hard to fake a GA state ID with the holograms and such.

I can fake a fingerprint if I want with a simple nail file or Elmer's glue.

@GypsyMic - I'm not quite that old. Being fingerprinted to trade in used games? :p

I used to run a check cashing store back in the day, so I know a thing or two about fake ID's and such. Believe me, there's not too many methods of fraud that I haven't seen. Being fingerprinted to trade in used games? ;)

You could distort your fingerprint with a nail file or elmer's glue. As such, your fingerprint would register as distorted which would raise red flags. You're not faking a fingerprint. And apparently, you were never a teenager. Having a fake ID doesn't mean
you went down to your local forger at the black market. It's as simple as using someone's ID who looks remotely similar to yourself.

I never used a fake ID as a teenager, I bought my cigarettes when I turned 18 and I'll buy my drinks when I turn 21 later this month. That whole assumption of "you didn't LIVE as a teenager if you didn't use a fake ID" is just made for TV bull.

Shemantics/agendas aside, I'm pretty sure they won't even care if you fake your thumb print. I doubt they have a CSI grade computer in the back room to run every thing. They probably just take your print, throw it in a drawer behind the counter and hand
it over in a large vanilla folder if police approach them. Literally the most painless process ever. Plus, most GameStop's have a policy to hold a sold used game/console/device for a month before placing it in the computer as for sale.

I never worked at an actual GameStop, had a friend who worked in one but from working in retail. I have a bit of experience in store protocal.
