Basic Xbox and headphones

Are you supposed to have earphone and mic available with a basic Xbox connection, or do you need Kinect as well?

I'm on my 3rd pair of DX11's, and I'm about to bring them back for yet another replacement. Luckily I paid for the extended warranty, otherwise I would have been ***. Every time after a few months one of the speakers starts rattling. Basically the speaker
starts to go out. I certainly don't listen to them too loud. They just suck. The bass and sound stage is superb but the quality of the headphones is horrible. I had the $60 old style of Turtle Beach headphones in the past and they were fantastic (great
bass). After a couple of years when the cord got damaged I bought the new $60 TB headphones and they had no bass whatsoever. Seems like they started making their headphones with cheap material. Also seems like they made their basic headphones which were
great in the past, horrible so people would upgrade (such as myself).



Can someone out there who is familiar with Best Buy headphones give me a suggestion for something other than TB headphones? I can swap them out for something $130 or under. I'm particularly looking for wired Xbox chat compatible headphones with an emphasis
on bass.

hi thanks for the reply, its such a basic function that should be a part of the makeup of skype! what do you do then? do you completely unplug your headphones from the console when using skype?

 

Each system should come with a basic headset. Whether or not the Kinect is included is up to whether or not you decide to buy one that includes it or one that does not.

 

Got it, Hornet, but I am not hearing anything from the headset. Where and when is it supposed to work? I see you play Forza. What do you think of it? I understand Project Cars is coming out soon. That is supposed to be a real winner Thanks for you

Have not played it in a while but I do like Forza Horizon 2 better than Forza 5. You may want to go into your settings and make sure you do not have it set up for voice chat to come through your tv speakers. I am excited about Project Cars. I actually
recently picked up The Crew and started playing it again since they seemed to have fixed some stuff on it. It was a broken mess when it came out.

 

Check your settings to make sure you have an Open NAT, too. If you don't, there's a few good reads:

Setup a port forward in your router to allow incoming connections for multiplayer games, VOIP, DVR, and security cameras.

The included basic earphone/mic will only play voice chat; no music or game sounds.

I recall Forza 5 have very problem-free, when joining online races. Worked every time. Same for PvZ: Garden Warfare. Other games sometimes required toggling between game chat and party chat to get sorted. Everything seems sorted since adding port forwarding
info directly to my router, though. Hope that helps

 

Thanks guys for your comments. My nat screen indicates moderate, everything working. Still, my question is when should it work. I have been playing Need for Speed, with no audio. Is the headset used only in certain games? Also, in that game they say
to press LB to start the race. Not sure what on the controller that is, but I have tried multiple key combination. It looks like I have on vote for Forza 5, and one for Forza HoriZon. Guess I will throw a dart....

 

LB is right above the left trigger.

 

Thanks Hornet, I did find it after a CLOSER EXAMINATION of the unit. Kinda hidden there!!!!
