Banning of consoles

Banning a console is definitely a way for Microsoft to make money. Buying devices and many other items 2nd hand is a big part of society. The console is an electronic device. The operator is at fault, not the device. It’s wrong.

I blew 250.00 last night, please do. I'm already in student debt, I wanted XBL, so I bought some stuff, and get banned, now where is the good in that?

Maybe it's just me but I don't think banning Xbox consoles is a sales or marketing technique that's designed to generate sales. Console bans just might be the result of the individual who's abusing the system above and beyond the person who just uses a four
letter word vocabulary.

 

Ok SpottyBrush650, here's a question for you.

Lets say that a person somehow cracks this console so that it can play pirated games, what should happen? Should the account that did the crack get banned or the console?

If its the account then you still have a "rogue" console out in the wile able to play pirated games etc. however if you ban the console, then theoretically that console can never connect to Xbox live and be virtually useless.

 

that is a different circumstance. You now have a reason to take that console out of service. And of course the owner of the console who was responsible should also pay the consequences. They are banning consoles due to the code of conduct that users are
abusing and that is what I don’t agree with. A console that has been altered should be the only reason to ban a console.

It's also one of the few ways, if not the only effective way for them to stop/deter many of the most serious infractions to the CoC or alterations of the consoles' hardware.

And it is the very reason for the birth of the saying "Buyer beware." Old sayings such as that don't become so common because they're not true and society doesn't tend to be very forgiving of those who choose to dismiss them.

Wrong. When buying [anything faulty, not just an electronic device] second hand there are 2 operators at fault. The one who knowingly caused the ban and still decided to sell the device AND the buyer for not following the old saying listed
above.

 

This thread makes no sense to me. Microsoft makes money banning consoles? How? I'll assume it's from the idiots getting banned buying another console? I thought they bought PS4s after they get banned. I'm sooooooooooooo confused.

Buy brand new and only from an authorized retailer. Sure it will be more expensive paying near or at full RRP for it. But it will come with something they call a warranty, and you won't have to worry about the user history of the console since it is brand
new and untarnished.

You buy cheap, you get cheap. You spend more, you get better quality.

It's true, "The operator is at fault, not the device". The operator is the person operating (using) the device. What they may have done with it could have constituted a ban.

It depends on the severity and type of bad behaviors that could potentially lead to a console ban. In which case it's not the operator that is at fault, it is not the device that is at fault, it's not your ISP that is at fault, it's not Microsoft that is
at fault, it's the seller. You said you got it second hand right? Then go fling a hissy at the Seller instead.

 

eBay, Amazon Marketplace, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and selling pages, used car lots, etc

The second hand market is huge all over the world. I'm genuinely surprised that you aren't aware of this.
