Banned for standing up for myself

Just wanted people to know Microsoft's stance on bullying. While playing Overwatch today (not on voice chat), a player from my team sends me a message degrading me telling me how awful I am, despite the fact that we won. I defended myself and responded with
a short and simple curse word. And then I was banned, despite the fact that I was merely responding to someone who provoked me. There is no placing the blame here on me for using a curse word, because if the other player had been respectful and not sent me
a disrespectful message, I wouldn't have had that word choice. It seems that Microsoft is okay with people being mean to others, as long as you don't curse.

Moral of the story: If you're bullied, you just have to take it. No standing up for yourself, and DO NOT CURSE at your bullies. Treat your bullies respectfully.

Odds are they're doin the same thing to someone else, and they will get reported and dealt with appropriately. In the meantime, you're free to submit a case review request at the
Enforcement site. I can't promise anything will come of it, but you have nothing to lose.

This is without question hindsight, but consider this ...

Bullies are trying to get a reaction out of you. Since you apparently gave them one, you gave them exactly what they wanted. Your best solution for dealing with cyber-trolls is RBI - Report the incident, Block the user, and Ignore them. Your report will
get reviewed by Microsoft and the troll will be dealt with. Microsoft will not tolerate online harassment any more than you want to be harassed.

If you decide to retaliate, be mindful that whatever you do/send is measured against the Xbox Live Code of Conduct. There is no "he started it" defense here. The Code of Conduct explains how we are to behave even when others are misbehaving, so it is for
that reason the Code of Conduct advises against responding to bullies.

Take the high road - don't feed the trolls.

Yeah, except that I got banned for responding to someone who provoked me. Doesn't really seem like an appropriate response from Microsoft. Granted, my response did contain 1 curse word, but again it's retaliation. Otherwise, bullying goes unchecked.

Definitely should have done that, and thanks for sharing. Nonetheless, I think some of the he started it, is merited. It feels very unfair to me. But I accept my blame, just wish that Microsoft would punish the instigator as well.
