I believe that it may affect your other devices if you happen to change the channel that your router is broadcasting. If you follow the error solution that Chris provided above, it should lead you to a possible solution as to why your Xbox cannot receive
an IP address on the 5GHz band.

It may be a good idea to also contact your Internet service provider and have them make sure your Xbox's MAC address is on the router's approved list of devices to receive an IP address. Do that before considering changing the channel of the 5Ghz band.

I have just purchased the black dual band n router and it doesn't even connect to the network? any help? keep getting incorrect password error or ip address error and i know for a fact that the password is correct

Do you know if you have a duel band router? So sometimes this can be caused by chatter. Most likely your router is set to 2.4 frequency if you have a duel band router you could try and set up a second network with a 5 frequency and then just connect the
Xbox to that. But to be honest from what you are describing it does sound like your DCHP server on your router is not working correctly. your DHCP is what assigns private IP address and if your Xbox sometimes has a different IP to the one on your router than
they are not communicating correctly. Now maybe the issue is with the console but it is up to the router to give the IP address to the device not the other way around.

What happens after you put in the Xbox's IP address into the Xbox app? Do you get an error message or does nothing happen?

Are both the PC and Xbox connecting to the same subnetwork and the same wireless band? You may need to confirm that both devices are by contacting your ISP since they could have placed the console behind a private IP address.

Did you restart your PC after you reset the app through your system settings?
