Backwards Compatible Games Not Connecting to Live

    Hello everyone,

For some reason none of my 360 games seem to allow me to connect to Xbox Live. Just recently, Halo 3 became a backwards compatible game, so naturally, I went to go play the legendary game. Once in the menu, I tried to go to matchmaking and told me I needed
to connect to Xbox Live. I attempted to, and was greeted with a message with an error code 80151904.

I tried to just redownload my profile to my Xbox, but it gives me the same message asking if I want to go exit and test network connection.

Internet is completely fine. IPv4 & IPv6, Open NAT, whatever. All is well. This only happens on backwards compatible games. I am in the preview program (the highest one, so like, alpha stage stuff? I'm not sure what it's called), and the only thing I can
think of is this is happening due to being in the preview program.

Anyways, any help is greatly appreciated.

    :)

  2. PLEASE READ

Backwards compatible games are the same exact games as they are on 360 so you are connecting to 360 Xbox Live. If they were to shut them down, then you wouldn't be able to play any 360 game online.

Backwards compat game achievements not being added to XB Live gamer score

Since August, any backwards compatible 360 games I have played, the achievements unlocked are not being added to the gamer score on Xbox Live. This happens whether I am playing backward compatible games from Gold membership, EA membership, or digital purchases.
Yes, I am connected to Xbox Live. I have restarted and even reset my Xbox One. I make sure I am always signed in to my gamer tag. However, the gamer score still does not update with the backwards compatible unlocked achievements.

  4. Backwards Compatible Games Not Connecting to Live

    Hey there Asher H2O,

Is the issue happening in all Backward Compatible games or just in Halo 3?

Just to be sure, run a Detailed Network Statistics test on the Xbox One console and please provide the following information.

    • Download Speed
    • Upload Speed
    • Latency
    • Packet Loss %
    • Wireless Strength (if applicable)
    • Modem Manufacturer
    • Router Manufacturer (if being used) as well as the model number
    • NAT Type

That information will help us determine the next best steps. Thanks!

Upon checking other BC games, it appears it is all backwards compatible games.

    • Download Speed - 65.15 Mbps
    • Upload Speed - 5.44 Mbps
    • Latency - 90 ms
    • Packet Loss % - 0%
    • Wireless Strength (if applicable) - Ethernet
    • Modem Manufacturer - Cisco
    • Router Manufacturer and Model Number - Linksys AC3200 #EA9200
    • NAT Type - Open with IPv4 & IPv6

And again, this did not start happening until one of the more recent preview dashboard updates. I have not encountered anyone else who has been experiencing the same issue as myself, and my only guess for what could have potentially caused the problem is
    one of the preview updates.

  6. Thanks for the details, the network stats look to be okay.

Let's have you try these steps to clear the Xbox 360 cache on the Xbox One and see if it helps.

    • Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.
(Note: Tapping the Xbox button will open the guide from any other screen on the console.)

    • Select Settings.
    • Select All settings.
    • Select System and then select Storage.
    • Select Clear local Xbox 360 storage.
    • Select Yes and restart the console. (This will not affect your cloud saved games or Xbox One games and profiles.)

Let us know how it goes!

Unfortunately, this did not work. Additionally, I am not able to play offline since I can’t redownload my profile, because it still says it can’t connect to XBL (not that I would for many BC games really).

I’m not sure what the problem is. :/

The problem has been identified. For whatever reason, using an ethernet cord does not allow you to connect to Live on the emulator. Wireless seems to work fine (I just recently decided to use an ethernet cable, which explains why it is only just now happening).

    .

Solution 3: Move and re-download your profile

    1. Move your Xbox Live profile:
      1. Format a spare
        USB flash drive
        as a memory unit.
      2. Plug the flash drive into your console.
      3. From the Dashboard, go to settings and then select Storage.

      1. Enter your Microsoft account password. If you forgot it, you’ll need to

      1. If you use external storage on your console, select the storage device on which you want to save the profile. If you don't use external storage, your profile will begin downloading.
Solution 4: Remove and reattach your Xbox 360 Hard Drive

The issue might be resolved by reseating a loose hard drive. Follow the instructions specific to your console type at
Add or Remove an Xbox 360 Hard Drive.

Solution 5: Reinstall the latest Xbox 360 system update

To reinstall the latest Xbox 360 update, follow these steps:

    1. Clear the system cache. For help, see step 2 in Solution 3, above.
    2. Roll back and then reinstall system updates. To do this:
      1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
      2. Go to settings and select System.
      3. Select Storage.
      4. Enter the following button sequence: LB , RB , X , LB ,
        RB , X .
      5. Select the option to roll back all system updates that are installed. The console will restart automatically and then download the updates again.
    3. Reset your network hardware. Here's how:
      1. Unplug the power cable from the back of the router, modem, or gateway. If you have a router and a modem, unplug the power cable from both devices.
      2. Turn off your Xbox One console by pressing and holding the power button on the front of the console for five seconds.
      3. Wait five minutes.
      4. If you're using a router, plug in the router and wait for all the lights to return to their normal state.
      5. Plug in the rest of your hardware and try to connect to Xbox Live.
    Solution 6: Network troubleshooting

    Run the
    Xbox 360 Connection Error Solution
    .

If you continue to have this problem, contact Xbox Support.

    Reverse confusion

Just make sure that your console is connected to Xbox Live when you are trying to install a backwards compatible game, even from disc, as all backwards compatible games need to be downloaded, not installed from disc.

Also it is up to the developers of games to decide if a particular title is made Backwards compatible or not, feel free to reach out to them and ask about making their game(s) backwards compatible too.

Silly Question you put the game in and nothing happens on xbox one

if you put a backwards compatible game in you have to be connected to live

It will ask if you want to install

I've got an 80151906 error code and can't connect to the network?

I'm currently having the same exact issue. I can't connect any of my backwards compatible games to Xbox Live on my Xbox One. I've restarted twice and checked my internet. Neither of these are the issues. My NAT is open and evrything else is fine. I can't
connect to Xbox Live on backwards compatible games at all!

    Red dead redemption goty

    Hi there,

please double check if your Xbox One console is fully updated (and connected to Xbox Live) since this is a requirement to install a Backward compatible game.

When using a disc the backward compatible game will still be downloaded from Xbox Live, since that is the backward compatible version (it will require the play disc to be inserted in order to play the game)

Since you mentioned discs, please be sure to insert the correct one (when console is connected and is updated). that usually should trigger installation.

    Let us know the results
