Backwards Compatible Games from the Microsoft Store

There is a list of available games here at
Backward compatible list. As for them being disk you would have to check game stores or any other third party retailer. If you get from Xbox or Microsoft stores they will be digital copies.

Not every Backward Compatible Xbox 360 games can be purchased from the Microsoft Store. But having checked, the game has been delisted from the store anyway. So the only way to purchase it now is by getting the disc version of the game.

Do you have a valid payment option on your account?

Even though the games are free you would need to have a valid payment option on the account.

When you check your account on xbox.com does it show any past due balances? That would block any further purchases until that was settled, inclusive I believe of free ones.

I had the same issue, but it went away after I disabled my family settings. I'm not sure if that was the issue or not, but after I disabled it I stopped having that problem.
