Backwards Compatibility?

So whats the word on this? I've been checking in on list of available games every so often, but I don't see new titles like Halo Reach or Skyrim.

I have a feeling that Halo Reach will not be backwards compatible because it (Halo Reach) will probably be re-mastered in the future (like Halo 1 and Halo 2).

With that being said, I also wouldn't be surprised if Halo Wars wasn't backwards compatible too as a re-mastering would probably be issued to it

With that being said, the reason that I'm guessing this is because it would be a perfect opportunuty for 343 Industries to fill in the time gap in between the release of Halo 5: Guardians and Halo 6.

This tactic (releasing the re-mastered versions of Halo Reach and Halo Wars in the middle of Halo 5: Guardians and Halo 6) is also an excellent way to promote Halo 6

Lei fang I see you're point but gears of war was also remastered and is also on the backwards compatible list if you bought the remaster you even got other version free

It would be nice for Halo Reach and Halo Wars (despite the fact that this game isn't my cup of tea) to have a Re-mastered version with the original for free

Lets shift back to question, "What's the word on this?" Halo Reach and Skyrim were just examples of games that I'd like to see transfer over to the One. What I want to know is if there has been any news regarding BC in general like, when can I expect more
games to come out? The only ones out right now are the ones that came out during E3, and there was an article from IGN that claimed that Microsoft was going to release 100 more titles in a few days.

It will probably be like the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility because the list gets updated as the Emulators become available.

Based on the Xbox 360 emulation rate, the backward compatibility list will probably be on which ever games are easier to emulate.

Henceforth, the popular titles may not be in the Xbox 360 compatibility list immediately if there are easier games to bring forward into the list first.

Unless there is some kind of change in policy (where the games are being selected by title instead of which ever is easier to make first), the Xbox One backwards compatilbility list will most likely follow suite

There is only one emulator, not one for each game. When BC is released, your Xbox One will download that emulator and any/all Xbox 360 games will play on the same emulator.

This was explained in a video that released around the same time as E3. It was also stated that all the devs of each game will have to do is "agree" to have their game made backwards compatible. There won't be any re-coding, or any other work by the devs
required, since the Xbox One will be (to over simplify) 'tricked' into thinking it's a 360.

If memory serves, I'm thinking they were going to build a list of games that were in demand for BC and they would approach the different devs of these games to ask if it's OK to add their game(s) to the list.

So in short, the process should work something like this;

MS comes up with a list of games that they would like to see on the BC list. They approach the devs and ask for permission to add [insert game name/list here] to the BC list. Dev agrees or does not. Game is added to list, or is not.

As for your question, I haven't really been paying much attention myself. I don't even know how to find the list. But, If it hasn't been updated recently I would think it won't be much longer since BC should be included with the next OS update... which is
coming up pretty quick. Although I did hear it's been delayed until around the Holiday?

I am not going to lie, I am probably not going to be using the backwards compatibility on the Xbox One because I still have my Xbox 360, but this list is something that I want to see LOL

Halo reach is a Microsoft studios published game and Skyrim is published by bethesda so there is a high chance both will be on the backwards compatible list. Both were on the screen at E3 as being apart of the program. Just have to wait and see next week.

 

I can see only a extra 20 30 games on that list with the ones we have already and the ones that been annouced ie all gears fallout 3 and burnout they take up most of the list of 100
