backwards compatibility of xbox 360 games on xbox one on disc

I got loads of xbox 360 games on cd rom disc and they are not working for backwards compatibility even though these games are on the official list of backwards compatible games. What is wrong? I read online that xbox 360 games on disc are also supposed
to be backwards compatible with xbox one.

You can play some Xbox 360 games on Xbox One through backwards compatibility. A full list of those games is here:

However, games for which there are both an Xbox One and Xbox 360 version are unlikely to ever be made backwards compatible, so if you wish to play that game on Xbox One you would need to purchase, either digitally or on disc, the Xbox One version of the
game.

1. Xbox 360 game discs can be used in Xbox One however the console needs to be online as it must download the backwards compatible version of the game. Please note the game disc is still required after downloading the game unless the game was purchased through
the marketplace.

2. With backwards compatibility Xbox One will run and Xbox 360 game along with an additional piece of software that (Emulates) the Xbox 360 on the Xbox One

3. Providing the Xbox 360 games you are wishing to play can also be played on Xbox One via backwards compatibility then there is no need for both consoles

If you are sure the games are on the official list Xbox One Backward Compatibility List | Xbox then the discs should work. Just insert the disc, make sure the drive has
read the disc, then install the game, be aware that you have to be connected to Xbox Live to install the games, the console has to download an update for the game, so it will work on the Xbox One.

 

Are your discs in good condition?

Are you connected to Xbox Live? In order for the games to work, you need to be connected to Live. When connected, inserting the disc should prompt an update. This 'update' as actually the repackaged Xbox 360 game. Without which the game can not be played.

 

I now am able to download it but I cannot use local storage hard disc. I can only use cloud storage.

Yes, the default is 'Cloud Storage. However, save games are actually always stored on the hard drive before uploading to Cloud Storage.

The 'Cloud Storage will still remain, even if your not connected to Live. When you reconnect, your saves are backed up too.
