Backwards compatibility not working, followed all steps, whats wrong?

I followed all the steps specified on xbox.com to make/make sure my xbox 360 is backwards compatible. I've followed all the steps even when i goto setting it says "Microsoft" right next to my internal drive(250gb), but i can't play original xbox games. (yes
the games i'm trying are on the backwards compatibility list, and yes i have downloaded all the updates). Any ideas???

Not all games available on games with gold is backwards compatible as of yet. Here's a list of what is available so far

I'm sorry you are having issues. The backwards list was completed in 2007 so any update from then should be good. As you have a slim (internal drive) it should work. If you bought it new it will be an original drive. If bought 2nd hand it is possible
it is not an original HDD - these have been known to cause some minor issues.

Some gamers suggest you are linked to the internet when you put in an old game in case it needs an update (game specific).

All I could suggest is clearing the cache and trying again to play a game.

1. Remove profile - SETTINGS page (far right from home page), select STORAGE, then find your profile and remove.

2. While in your hard drive under GAMES & APPS look for any red or yellow icons with incomplete or unknown. Delete them.

3.Clear System Cache - SETTINGS page, select STORAGE and highlight a drive but don't select it. Press Y and select Clear System Cache. Agree when asked.

4. Be Patient - turn your console off for a full minute. This assists in resetting the console.

5. Turn on the console and download your profile - it is the icon next to 'create a profile'. Try again

I have a few questions for you.

Which type of console are you using? Older FAT or Slim?

Where did you purchase your hard drive from? Local gaming store or online retailer (ie. Ebay, Amazon)?

The age of the console and where you purchased the drive from could play a part in backwards compatibility issues as well. Heading to settings will not let you know if the drive is an official one or 3rd party. 3rd party drives are incompatible with backwards
compatibility features due to missing firmware on the drive.

Although it is possible to get an official Xbox drive from an online retailer you're more likely to get a 3rd party drive.

 

The official Xbox Compatibility List has some incorrect entries. Refer to the wikipedia page for more correct information.

If you bought your HDD online, or from a third party (So, not at say, a Walmart), then there's a good chance that it's a fake and whoever sold it to you was too lazy to make it a good fake. In which case you're out of luck.

 

i'm using a slim 4gb console with a 250gb hard drive. i tried a game while linked to the internet. idk where i got my drive or console but it says in the settings it's a microsoft drive.i purchased my console 4 years ago .

 

having it say MS in the settings means nothing even the fake drives look legit that way if a old game on the list won't play that is a 100% way to tell the drive is fake and there is NO way to make it work with the supported games sorry.

 

thanks, i just gave up and got a ps3 for backwards compatibility (its the same price as 1 backwards compatible drive)
