  1. Backwards Compatibility and 360 sign in trouble after Gamertag change on Xbox One

Hi All. I have a frustrating issue at the moment. I changed my Gamertag back in September 2016 (same profile and account - just new gamertag) and my backwards compatibility has never worked since. When the emulated 360 platform boots up it signs me out and
still has my old gamertag stored as the sign in option. If I try to sign in with that it says that that profile can't connect and to try re-downloading the profile. If I try signing in with my email address and password it says I'm using an incorrect password.
(I've confirmed that's not the case) I can only assume that something that is cached or stored somehow in relation to the old gamertag name isn't allowing it to update to the new one. And I have no idea how to delete the outdated 360 profile from my Xbox One.
    So that's the first issue.

I also tried signing into my actual Xbox 360 last night and had a similar issue. My old Gamertag wouldn't let me sign in. I went to Xbox.com and found some possible solutions. First I deleted the profile (without deleting my games saves, etc) and then I cleared
the cache and restarted the system. The profile is gone, but I get the same issue when I try to sign in with my current login information. It tells me my password is incorrect and won't move forward. Again, I've confirmed that my login information is correct.
One way I confirmed this was after chatting with customer service. They asked me to go back to my Xbox One, go offline, delete my profile, restart the system, go back online and sign back into my profile. Worked just fine - but I've never had an issue with
my Xbox One profile. Then they asked me to go back into the backwards compatibility and... same issue. I also got disconnected from the customer service chat twice (at least once was my fault) so I wasn't able to see if there were further suggested actions.
Anyone experienced this issue? Any ideas? The 360 one is the most puzzling to me since I was able to manually delete the profile and clear the cache. I would have thought that would fix it and allow me to re-sign in with the current profile information. Thanks
for any help anyone can provide.

    :)

  3. Cant' play backwards compatible games after changing gamertag

I had changed my gamertag on xbox one from a previous gamertag I used for years on xbox 360 and when I try to play backwards compatibility on my xbox one I receive a message saying to log into my xbox 360 account with my old gamertag, which is now different.
When I attempt to sign in with my email address and password, the length of my current password is too long to fit in the allowed character limit of the xbox 360 screen prompt. I also tried to hook up my old xbox 360 to try and sign in or change my gamertag
to my new xbox one gamertag and it lost that profile and I cannot sign in on my 360. Is there any way to link these profiles so I can play backwards compatible xbox 360 games on my xbox one and be able to save them on the xbox one?

  4. Backwards Compatibility and 360 sign in trouble after Gamertag change on Xbox One

Haven't been able to try it yet, but I got what sounds like a good solution from customer support. The 360 only supported passwords of less than 16 digits. My most recent password is over that, which might be what's keeping the 360 elements from updating
my profile. I'll report back in case this is helpful to anyone.

  5. Hey there Magic Lozenge,

Sorry to hear about the issue with using your profile after changing the Gamertag through Backward Compatibility. Let's have you try these steps to clear the Xbox 360 cache on the Xbox One and see if it helps, If changing the password to less than 16 characters doesn't
    work.

    • Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.
(Note Double-tapping the Xbox button will open the guide from any other screen on the console.)

    • Select Settings.
    • Select All settings.
    • Select System and then select Storage.
    • Select Clear local Xbox 360 storage.
    • Select Yes and restart the console. (This will not affect your cloud saved games or Xbox One games and profiles.)
Let us know how it goes!

[Fix] How to fix not being able to log into backwards compatible games AFTER a gamertag change.

    WadeWilson I91I,

In order to play backwards compatible titles after a gamertag change, all you would need to do is re-download your profile from the Xbox 360 Menu on a backwards compatible title. That should fix it.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. More than likely this is a region issue. Although Xbox One games are not region locked some 360 games are. Try changing your gamertag's region to match yours. Do this for both the Xbox One and while in a backwards
compatible game. Press the Menu and Back buttons on your controller while a BC title is running to get the 360 menu.
