    Backwards compat issues.

Hello, recently I bought a backwards compatible game (black ops 2) and attempted launching it. First problem was that the OS was questioning if I owned it, it took 3-4 attempts to get it to open. Then, after that, my xbox account was grayed out and I was
not allowed to use my account. So, I go to launch it from another account, and it says "can't connect to xbox live. Please test network connection and try again" So, I attempted it. Test came to 100% packet loss. Yet, I can connect to the store AND xbox one
multiplayer games PERFECTLY FINE, open NAT and everything too. So, is this a bug? Regular support claimed it was a networking issue. Uh, no, sorry. If it was a network issue it wouldn't be connecting to online games, plus me and my brother in law run our own
internet server, so we know it's not an issue with our network.

    :)

  3. Backwards Compat issues?

    Hey, kezijin!

Sorry to see any multiplayer issues. If you had just recently redeemed or bought Gold on your account, sometimes it can take a few hours before it will recognize this. It's not entirely common, but we generally suggest

    removing and re-adding your profile
to your console after a power cycle.

If you're still having issues and it's been more than 24 hours after you redeemed or bought Gold, please post back! We'll definitely want to look more into it. Backwards compat issues. :)

    Hey there, TDS!

I'm sorry to see any issues! If your test is showing 100% packet loss, then there is something that is causing the console to think there is a network issue. In order to help out, I'd need a bit more information. This is to rule out the network as a whole,
and is required in order to nail down what might be happening.

    • Modem manufacturer and model number (if you have a gateway, I will only need that information)
    • Router manufacturer and model number
    • ISP
    • Detailed network statistics
    • Number of Xbox consoles in the house
From there, I can determine what our next steps will be in sorting this out. I look forward to working with you! Backwards compat issues. :)

Hi, I have had the same equipment for my internet, and the same ISP for a long time with no changes. As I have said before, we run our own server, so our ISP can't do much in the way of IT work, as we have business internet. It had worked perfectly fine
before until recent updates and the purchase of black ops 2. Pretty sure the purchase of a game can't be the cause, but either way I will provide this information anyways. I have a netgear CM400 and a SMC networks D3CM1604V-000. I believe it is specifically
for business internet though, and is not sold in stores or online, only provided by ISP's. My ISP is Mediacom Internet (specifically business internet) We only have one console in the house. detailed statistics: 51.39 Mbps download, 9.06 upload, 54 latency,
MTU is 1480, and as said before, 100% packet loss. still able to perfectly connect to xbox live with no problems for the xbox one, emulator still not working for online services, open NAT.

  6. Thanks for getting that information to me! I do get running your own server helps with understanding what is going on, and I really appreciate you humoring me with this. Backwards compat issues. ;)

The purchase of the game likely isn't the cause, I agree. That would be just weird, and I've not seen something like that in the 5 years that I've been supporting Xbox consoles. If it is, I'll definitely regret saying this now. *knocks on wood*

Based on you not getting me a wireless strength, I'm assuming that you're wired? And you have no switches in your network set up that you can remove, right?

Assuming both of those things are correct (if they aren't, we both know what I am), I would honestly suggest a

    factory reset
, keeping your games and apps. We've seen that resolve this weird packet loss issue before, so I want to start there to see if that gets everything sorted quickly. If you're wireless, go wired. And if you have switches, get them removed from
the network set up and see how the connection is after that.

If you are wired and a factory reset doesn't work, are you able to go wireless to see if that helps? I'm wondering if something might have gone wrong with the ethernet NIC.

Let me know how those go! We'll look at other things if these don't help out. Backwards compat issues. :)

So, I have already done basically anything I can do with the console. I tried doing a factory reset keeping the games and apps, with an issue where I needed to do an offline update because the xbox would no longer allow me to connect to the internet. But
after I did the offline update, it fixed the issue of not being able to connect to the internet at all after the fact of resetting. I have tried using a new IP, I have tried resetting the memory for the 360 emulator, I have tried both wired and wireless, hard
resets, etc. everything the support could suggest, I did. I spent nearly 6 hours with them and no one could figure anything out. I feel this is a bug in the preview program possibly, as I downloaded the update and the issue came on. I got VERY frustrated with
support, because I even gave them the reference codes and they all wanted me to try the same thing, it was annoying haha. They were lucky I understand that software and hardware can have problems. One suggested I send my xbox in for repairs, but I don't believe
that would do anything, as the OS seems to have caused the issue, and it would also be expensive to send in and then have them be like "oh, it's probably a software issue" But yeah, this isn't a huge issue for me as I only wanted to play one game that's BC,
the only thing I am frustrated with is the fact i spent 60 dollars on a game for it to not be able to launch multiplayer for, the main reason I even purchased the game.

Wow, alright! That is really weird. I'm of the mind of it being either a software or weird network issue (see below for my explanation on that).

Checking into your Insider status, it looks like you're in Ring 3; I do not believe that would be causing an issue since there isn't an Insider update for Ring 3 at this time and you should be on the general audience release.

I could suggest a refund, but that wouldn't get rid of the license on your account because it's a 360 game. You tried it with another account already...

When you did that, it said to test the network. Did you test the Xbox One or the Xbox 360 network through the emulator to get the 100% packet loss you saw originally? Since you posted about still getting it while humoring me, I believe it to be the Xbox
One test that you did, but I'm curious to know if the emulator is showing that, too.

Outside of EVERYTHING we've done, I've got 2 suggestions left. First one, if you own another BC game through Games with Gold or before getting an Xbox One, launch that. I do not see any mention of you doing that, so that's why I'm suggesting it. Second one, take
it to another internet connection. Based on you saying this is the only game you wanted to play via the emulator, I'm wondering if this might be a network issue that would have occurred before but was only noticed once you tried launching a BC game.

Let me know about the network test and my last suggestions. We'll see if I can scrounge up any other troubleshooting after I get those points. Backwards compat issues. :)

Ok, so I also did launch another game the other day, still having network failure. It says 100% packet loss on the XB1 menu, and I didn't know there was a way to test it through the emulator. In the emulator, whenever I click test network connection, it
takes me to the XB1 network tester. That says 100% packet loss, so this is definitely a software issue. I access online multiplayer on the XB1 perfectly fine, every single XB1 game I play has absolutely no connection issues, and neither do parties. I even
went through my server software to double check that that IP was getting all the necessary packets to connect, and it was.

  10. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but thanks for testing that!

Were you able to test on another network? I'm wondering with the depth of your network itself isn't working well with the Xbox console anymore. It's rare, but I've seen it happen.

So, it turns out, it WAS a glitch in the xbox OS. I decided to test to see if something would possibly work. I switched to tethered data from my phone for the internet connection, then switched back to my regular internet and boom, backwards compatibility
fully working. Something I NEVER expected to work.

so, this is weird for me. I recently lost xbox live gold, and I have my friends account set as the home xbox on my xbox, so we are sharing gold now. After I lost gold, suddenly my 360 games connect to multiplayer again. Could possibly be a glitch in the
OS or in the account system? I'll update again within the next couple days to see if it continues to work like this. My last post, that did work every time, now suddenly I don't have to do it anymore. This is the weirdest issue I have had on xbox, will keep
    updated.

Generally issues with backwards compatible games on the 360 is down to the hard drive. A lot of third party purchases of hard drives tend to result in the hard drive being a knock off which will not work with backwards compatibility.
