Microsoft: Xbox 360 will last till 2016, over 100 new games on the way

Also, remember there is no backward comparability, so you need nurse the old red ring machine along to keep playing your back catalog!

  3. Xbox 360 game code on Xbox One?

Hi. So, recently I purchased an Xbox 360 digital code for Fallout 3. I don't have an Xbox 360, and I had thought that the backward comparability feature on Xbox One also applied to game codes. So, I tried the code on my Xbox One and, to put it bluntly, it
didn't work. I would like to know if backward comparability does not apply to digital game codes, or if something else happened?

But will the XBox ONE be able to run "Dark Star One" in 1080p?

The preview program is only previewing the feature. Meaning there's only a small amount of games so far. Hopefully by the time the full feature launches there will be many more added to the list.

The only downfall I see to this is everything will be downloaded. This will be bad for those with data caps on their internet.

"Xbox One Backward Compatibility is easy to use

The Xbox One Backward Compatibility Beta is available starting June 15 for Xbox preview members. The program will launch broadly in fall 2015.

The digital titles that you own and are part of the Back Compat game catalog will automatically show up in the “Ready to Install” section on your Xbox One. For disc-based games that are a part of the Back Compat game catalog, simply insert the disc and the
console will begin downloading the game to your hard drive. After the game has finished downloading, you will still need to keep the game disc in the drive to play."

  7. You need to keep the disc in the drive? Mass Effect has been running without it for me.

Mgzin... if the game is disc based.. no DL needed. Also the games are native... should be same size as they were on 360 MBs not GBs

@tohell....I got that quote from here:

    www.xbox.com/.../backward-compatibility

    -

It uses the word downloading not installing. So methinks it will d/l a version that is compatible with the X1's architecture.

  12. The games definitely aren't running completely native. There is at least some level of emulation going on here.

To start with when starting Mass Effect a pop up appears telling me I was last signed in on another console. Go back to my 360 and I get the same message. The One is making the game think it is running on a 360.

Notification pop-ups are in the 360 style, not that of the One.

When starting the game I was asked to pick between my profile and my girlfriend's, this appeared on a screen exactly like that the 360 uses.

Signing into Mass Effect on the One kicks the same profile on the 360 offline. The same happens in reverse, you get the message you've been signed out because the profile is in use elsewhere, but oddly this doesn't seem to make the game running on the One
lose access to the Cloud storage.

    The devs themselves have said that is purely, software emulation at work. It's in 1 of their own videos discussing the new feature, which I'm unable to link to from here, but you can find it on Xbox's official YouTube channel (just search "Xbox" on YouTube;
    you'll find it).

They've also said that with disc-based games, you put the disc in and then download the game, so even with a disc, there is still a download. How big it is or whether you'd need the disc afterwards, I do not know however...

  14. What is good about this is that you can use the Cloud saves on the 360 and the One. With Mass Effect you can move back and forth between systems and start where you left off.

Fair play to Microsoft. They've got this pretty much spot on.

Do we have a list of what's available so far?

As cools as "Mass Effect" was I'm not in any rush to play that with titles like "Diablo III", "Destiny", "The Witcher 3" and "The Elder Scrolls Online" for the ONE.
