Backward Compatibility With Multi Disc Games

I recently got playing Mass Effect again, starting from the first game since I've never actually played it other than 2 and 3. I know multi disc games are supported I'm just not sure how it works exactly. For Mass Effect 2 as an example, I installed disc
one, and figured I would have to install disc two as well. But when putting into my Xbox it says it can't be played here, so I'm not sure if that is intended or what. Makes me think the whole game wont work when I get around to where I have to switch discs.
Anyone have any further knowledge of how this would work?

Is it true that multi-disc games (such as Mass Effect3, Assassin's Creed 3, Lost Odyssey....) will never be concerned by backwards compatibility ?

 

I think that it's probably likely that if an install is needed, it will prompt you when you move onto the second disc.

You'll only need to have Disc 1 in the console for this to work. That's why it's telling you that the disc can't be played here on the 2nd disc. Have fun!
