Backward Compatibility Voting

Do you think we should bring back voting for Xbox 360 games to be backward compatible? I thought that was a better way to choose what games people actually want. For example, I remember that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 had over 1,000 votes,
and then a game that was recently added to the list had around 25. Bringing this back would allow Microsoft to see what games people want to play. Now that that has gone, how are you supposed to know what to bring back unless you add every game to the list.

Well, I guess it's not that easy..

There are a lot of games with copyright problems.

For example: Def Jam or Fifa

The soundtrack of both games was only licensed for one "lifespan" of the game. I guess that's one reason why Microsoft can't just add all xbox games to the backward compatible pool

I'm going to assure you that Microsoft is more than willing to make as much of the Xbox games library backward compatible. However, the main issue is licensing. For many games, they have to negotiate for a license to use the name of a brand or put say a
car of a certain brand into a game. Hence why it is hard to make all the previous Forza's such as motorsports 1, 2, and 3 backwards compatible. They would have to renew all the licenses for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles. To make even tougher, some
companies that created certain games have since been dissolved and reinstated with another company or created an entire company. Making it hard to reach the original developers who got the licenses.

So, its a lot tougher than you think! But they are trying their hardest!

I think it would be great, provide more community involvement even if it was a vote on 2 or 3 deciding which would be available next.

Great suggestion, I think this would be a spectacular idea and encourage the community as a whole to come out in support of their most desired 360 titles.

 

On the one hand, I think it was a great place to leave feedback, and I'd fully support seeing it return in the future. On the other hand, though, a LOT of people left feedback/votes while it was open, and I'm sure the data from that is still accessible
for the backward compatibility team to use, and I'm also sure that data is still influencing their current work. Plus, as others have mentioned, fan demand is just one of the factors that goes into determining which games become backward compatible (other
factors include licensing, publisher involvement/schedules, etc).

There's also a great blog post by Major Nelson about backward compatibility that may be worth a read- he recommends that the best action you can take if you want to see a game become backward compatible is to reach out to the game's publisher. Xbox One Backward Compatibility

 

Sound like a great Idea, But the devs need to approve the games and then Xbox Works on them.
