Backward Compatibility- Star Wars Battlefront II

I bought Star Wars Battlefront II for my Xbox 360 on assurances from the seller that it is backward compatible for my system. It is in fact on the list of backward compatible games, and I know several people who play this game on their Xbox 360 consoles.

The first error it gave me was that we need a hard drive. So I went and bought an internal hard drive and installed it. The game said it was not compatible though. So an Xbox ambassador told me it would work if I just went and bought a Microsoft-brand
hard drive, as that has the software that will convert the old game to work on the new system. So I took back the old hard drive and bought a new one-- this one a Microsoft Xbox hard drive.

I installed this tonight. The game still gives me an error- this xbox original game is not compatible with your system. I'm at my wit's end. No one can help me- at GameStop, at Xbox support, nobody. This forum is my only hope. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

Sorry to hear it. Was the drive that you purchased new or used? If it was used then perhaps it was a 3rd party drive. Some manufacturers of 3rd party drives will slap a Microsoft sticker on them to make them look official. If it was new then I would
recommend returning it to the store for replacement anyway as it may be defective.

It is used. But it's clearly Microsoft- has all the markings, serial number, label on the casing, etc. But I guess I could always try a brand new one. Crazy to think that would work when this hasn't, though.

If it was used and the backwards compatible games are not working with it then odds are the drive was originally purchased from an online retailer such as Ebay or Amazon. As I mentioned, some retailers on those sites will put Microsoft stickers on those
drives even though they are not official Xbox drives.

Only official Xbox hard drives have the firmware installed that is required in order to play backwards compatible games. When you return the drive to Gamestop be sure to let them know that it is a 3rd party drive and is not fully compatible with Xbox systems.

    Hello,

There are 2 x NTSC versions - the Japanese one is not backwards compatible but the US is. All other versions PAL etc are meant to be compatible.

An original hard drive is obviously a necessity. When you put the drive in did you try to clear it and check for any updates? One would assume even a 2nd hand one should work as it must have been updated at some point.

I had an issue with a disc once and just had to clean it real good before it worked. this may not be your issue - its hard to say. I use an oil based wood polish. (In Australia it's called Mr Sheen) The polish is wiped away but a small amount fills any
scratches or blemishes. Makes discs shiny and work great.

    Checked some old forums
    forums.xbox.com/.../443902.aspx
and they say the newer slims have always had an issue with backwards compatible games. There's a few suggestions there, maybe it can help.

    good luck & happy gaming

The other thing is, depending on what video settings your console is set to output to, the game may not work. For examples, some games only work if the console is set to 480p. Others, will work at 720p, but not 1080i/p. Play around with those settings.
