Backing up the licenses for purchased Xbox movie and T.V. shows

Hi all,

Please excuse me if I haven't posted in the correct place - I have been searching for a Xbox Video forum, but can't seem to find one.

I have purchased quite a considerable amount of movies and T.V. shows from the Xbox store and was wondering if there is any way to manually back up the license files (and movies themselves) to a USB drive or my OneDrive.
I have been searching Google but cannot seem to find an answer to this question. I know that Microsoft often pull down movies from the store when requested by the copyright owner (it has happened to me). I figure that there must be some way of protecting my
purchases should this happen again. I can't seem to find any folder on my Surface that contains the license files, but figured that if I can get access to them, I could copy them to a USB drive along with the actual movie files. In theory (unless I'm
wrong) restoring should be as simple as copying the movie file back to the Videos folder, and putting the license file back where it belongs. ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Xbox live music and video question for the new Xbox One

Will my purchased shows and movies from Xbox live music and video be relevant to the new Xbox One? Transfer content license so to speak.

No. There's no way of backing up licenses.

Yeah it's called buying them in dvd or blueray format. Beats paying full price for something in 'smoke' format that can just disappear on somebody elses whim.

 

thats just it, you purchased the licence, it then gives them the right to remove content as and when they deem fit, when purchasing any content you don't actually own the content, you purchase a licence to view that content for all time or until it is removed.

 

Wow! That's a bit scary that I never actually own the media, just the license. Is that the same with iTunes and Google? Hmmm... Maybe I am better buying them on DVD and Blu-Ray. :-( I must admit, nothing beats the convenience of using the Xbox Movie store,
but I don't want to spend a couple of thousand pounds only to find that one day I can't access my content. This is something Microsoft really should look into.

Yes, it's the same with anything you purchase digitally. You're only purchasing a license to use the content, but the usage is restricted by how the service you purchase it from allows you to use it. So if the content is pulled from the servers, you no longer
have access.

 

Or if the service itself ends, like Itunes going out of business just as an example.
