Background wifi downloads on (instant on) standby mode issue

Can you clarify what you meant by my Xbox one is still plugged in means since you state you're on a wireless router? Also what is the model of your router? Thanks again.

I'm not so sure. My xbox one is still plugged in while I'm sleeping. I can't really track the Xbox's download speed while I'm asleep. I just know that If I start the download while I'm awake, then I turn off my xbox, and let the download finish while I'm
asleep, it is definitely done by the time I wake up. I'm on a wireless network. I don't really have the position to put it on a wired network. I wouldn't be too nervous about turning off your xbox while you are downloading something as long as some of it has
downloaded while the xbox is on. I'd say about 30%. Depending on the size of the file. And the length of the time that you sleep.

Hi Byel! Can you confirm a couple of things for us? First, what o/s version are you on? There were some update issues which have been resolved in the latest updates.

Second, when you say Standby, is your console not set to "instant on" mode? A console must be in "instant on" mode (by going to settings --> power & startup) for updates to download while asleep.

Finally, you will also want to make sure background downloads are enabled in this same location. Let us know!

Same sort of thing for me. Forza 5 update today, turned on Xbox and was expecting Forza to be updated considering the update was out 6+ hours before and I had to wait for Forza to download the update after I had switched on the Xbox. Ive got the Xbox set
to "Instant On" and the "Auto download" set to on. Main system update from the other week was fine as that downloaded overnight and when I switched on the Xbox it was installing it straight away.

My question as well is if the Xbox is in standby mode should it still be connected to the router via wifi? My router shows a list of connected devices. Xbox in standby mode isnt shown on the list and so isnt connected via wifi, yet my PS4 in standby is shown
connected via wifi to the router. So should the Xbox be connected on wifi all the time when its in standby or just when its physically on? If its not connected via wifi when its in standby how does it get updates?

Hello, basically you need to go into your settings and under general you will need to select power mode and startup. Then select instant-on. You will need to make sure under this setting that your storage is left on. If storage is selected to be off things
will only download when the xbox is powered on. Another thing to do is in settings go to system select updates and downloads and select keep my games and apps up to date. This will allows background updates and downloads. Downloads in standby mode are considered
background downloads.
