Background Music Downgrade

I have a Xbox One X, Division 2 bundle, bought earlier this year. I finally upgraded from the used Xbox 360 I bought back in 2011. On my previous console, I almost always used the preinstalled media player to play background music during my gaming. I thought
this Xbox One X was supposed to be the best of the best, yet it lacks the single most used feature of myself and many others (forum posts as evidence).

Why the downgrade? I literally cannot fathom the understanding behind NOT including it with later consoles. All the "options" available aren't useful or functional. That Simple Background Music Player app? Yeah... it limits the amount of songs you can use
and reorganizes them all by file name (multiple albums = all "01." songs played first). If you want them played in order, you have to go through and rename ALL of the tracks (which were automatically named in Windows media player). Sometimes I want to listen
to my music while gaming, which would be impossible on any of these paid streaming apps because I literally created and composed these songs and I'm not uploading them on any app.

When can we expect the Windows media player to return to the Xbox console, like it was with the 360?

Unfortunately they took some real steps back with some of the features when they designed this console, having that in-built background music player was one of those steps back. There are some ways around it, as you've already mentioned, but it's not as
useful as the Xbox 360 one was.

I've heard the Spotify app is quite good for background music, but I've never used it myself. I end up just using my phone and listening to podcasts that way. The podcast app on Xbox One has always been very hit or miss for me, with lots of crashing.

In the new update it stated "Background Music: Today’s update brings the ability for the highly requested feature of Background Music, which lets you listen to your favorite music in the background while gaming on Xbox One. The Pandora app, launching soon,
is the first of many partners who will support Background Music, with Groove Music, iHeartRadio and other apps coming later."

Pandora is coming soon, as stated in the update release. However, there is one current App that will work with this function called CAST, it is a free music app. You can use this now until the other music apps are updated to work with the new Background
Music feature.

The Xbox apps do not currently support playing music from a USB drive for background music. There are some 3rd party apps that have this ability like Simple Background Music Player.

Absolutely! Just hover over the top-right corner (or if you're on a tablet, swipe from the right) and that will bring up the charm bar. Choose Settings and then Game Options. In that menu you can adjust not only the music but also the voice and the sounds.
