Background downloads working, sometimes

I'm having an odd situation. I'm trying to download Halo: Reach from the Xbox 360 marketplace. I turn off my console while it downloads, I see the light flash a couple of times, but when I turn off my TV, the light stops flashing and my Xbox 360 turns off
completely, stopping the download. Here is my hardware situation:

Xbox 360 Slim (the new-ish black one that was released a couple years ago)

TV is a Viewsonic VT 2430 (not sure if important, but it's involved so I'll add it in)

The two are connected via HDMI cable.

May or may not be related: I can turn on my Xbox 360 without turning on my TV. Fans start buzzing and the green light goes on. But once I turn the TV on, the Xbox 360 startup animation starts from the beginning, no matter how long I let it sit before turning
the TV on. It's as if the Xbox only lights up when pressing the power button, but doesnt actually start up anything until the TV is also on.

Background downloads not working after upgrade...

Just turned Background downloading off. Then turned console off and noticed it was doing its background download. Turned console back on and it shows background downloads as being turned on and is working ok now. Go figure.

Background downloads not working

The xbox 360 background downloads feature isn't working for me.

I know that it used to work for me but since the latest update it doesn't work.

I'll start downloading something , turn off the xbox and it shuts off completely after 3 seconds.

It used to flash and keep downloading until the download was finished but now it just turns itself off and doesn't download anything.

Its a real pain.

I have to keep my 360 fully turned on now when downloading anything wasting electricity.

My xbox 360 is connected to the internet via wi fi now whereas it was wired in the past but it still should work.

Can anyone help me get the background downloads working the way they're supposed to over wifi.

Might seem like an obvious question, but have background downloads been enabled in settings? I only query because some people think it is an automatic feature.

Hey there Quinn! That's definitely odd that it kept turning off for you. I can certainly understand if you'd rather not bother troubleshooting it; but if you'd like to troubleshoot, can you tell us what you were trying to download that wouldn't keep
the console downloading? Was it one specific thing or more than one thing?

Like I said, if you'd like to troubleshoot just hit us back and we'll work with you from there. If not, Game On and have a good one! ^_^

@Tarrier Just to keep things organized, please go ahead and make a new thread detailing the issue and all the steps you've tried so far. That's just so we can give you the attention you deserve and not let it get jumbled up with anyone else.

I've only been gaming on my pc recently but anyway that's what I was doing originally and it didn't work.

I had download while console is off set enabled and it just wouldn't continue downloading when my console was turned off.

It would just turn itself off after about 3 seconds.

I gave up on it anyway because I've nothing else to download on it anyway.

That's not the case!

Back ground downloading put your 360 into semi standby mode and downloads the stuff on you list.

The power lige on the front will flash intermeidetly (spelling) showing it is downloading. Once it has done downloading it will turn itself off.

You turn BG downloading in the console settings.

WHy it is not working for the OP i do not know.

I found that once I had turned background downloads on, I had to turn machine off, then on again. After that, when I had something to download, it worked fine when I shut the machine down.
