Microsoft faults knock sites offline

Faults with Microsoft's cloud computing platform have knocked many third-party sites offline, as well as disrupting the US firm's own products.

says problems began at 00:52 GMT across the globe. Its European operations are taking the longest to fix.

Access to Microsoft's Office 365 online suite of apps and its
Xbox Live gaming facility are among services affected.

The faults could set back the company's efforts to sell Azure.

Microsoft is attempting to make gains on the market leader, Amazon Web Services, as well as IBM, Google and others offering rival products.

Their pitch is that it is more efficient for companies to rent computing power from a large tech firm than owning and managing their own computer servers or going to a smaller provider.

"Microsoft is investigating an issue affecting access to some Microsoft services," said Adrienne Hall, general manager at the company.

"We are working to restore full access to these services as quickly as possible."

At the time of writing, Microsoft's own site indicated that some customers were still experiencing problems with access to storage, the operation of their websites and access to analytics tools.

'Hugely disruptive'

Azure's biggest customers include Easyjet, Toyota, Tesco, eBay, Boeing and Apple.

Xbox is currently having issues and it is affecting both Live connection and Cloud storage.

Just goes to show that the cloud is still way to young to cope with all this demand.

I am not sure the cloud is still to young. Basically this stuff has been around for a long time. They have just started calling it the cloud more recently to give it a new marketing edge. And I doubt it sets Azure back. Amazon has had similar issues
before with their servers. Nothing is perfect and things happen. This will be fixed soon. And other server providers have had issues as well I just pointed out Amazon because that is the most recent that one I remember.

This does show the whole issue with relying solely on servers. I like to keep offline what I can and use servers as a supplemental thing. I dislike when something requires a server connection even though little is happening away from the device. I had
a few mobile games like that. And they seemed to have server issues a lot. So I just deleted them.

I'll have to correct this post because although we now have Azure servers here for Xbox LIVE apparently Halo is still not on dedicated servers.

Xbox 360 doesn't use Azure servers, it uses 15,000 Xbox Live servers. It's the Xbox 1 which uses Azure servers, 300,000 Xbox Live Azure servers.

This new issue affects only the Xbox 360. See my earlier post details. This issue IS Microsoft's issue. When you are not signed in, you can bypass the black screen by inserting a game disc of the game you want to play, the Xbox 360 Dashboard loads that fine,
while it's doing that, sign in. It worked for when I wanted to play COD BO2. But when I start my console and sign in then, launch an app or game, I get the black screen. It's not a defect of the Xbox 360 Dashboard. It's the *source" which Xbox 360 is connected
to, and the only service which Xbox 360 consoles are connected to, is one thing only, Xbox Live.

Yeah, it seems to be affecting games that use Azure. It's still ongoing now.
