Automatic updates while gaming...

Had a mandatory Xbox live update when I was playing ARK. This update took twice as long as they usually do, so obviously I start panicking. When it finally updated I was killed and lost hours worth of work because of this terribly timed mess. Just
like Windows giving you 15 minutes before they kick you off your own PC without permission. Why can't they simply send out a ten minute notification before you get pushed offline?

Halo 5 (disc) won't update the 9.0 GB Patch.

Just install Halo 5 while offline.When i try to update the patch,it stopped automatic no matter how many time I resume update.

It's the opposite of redundant, actually. Instead of updating your game very time you put one in, you can update all of them in a single system-wide check. I also agree wit this while my console is in instant-on mode, as it doesnt automatically update every game automatically.Click to expand... It's redundant because there is already a way to keep your games update. Put the console in standby, as the console was intended to be. Problem solved. If it's a game that won't automatically update then update it next time you play it. It takes 5 minutes max in most cases.Click to expand...

I just think it is a little weird you talking to me as if i dont have a Xbox One on instant-on mode.--I do. and i'm telling you it does not automatically update all your games.

Sorry to hear about the setback, I have been there, you can change your update settings to prevent this by setting your console to instant-on mode, Available updates will be downloaded and installed during off-hours when your console is not in use. Here
is a support page that goes over all of this and will help you bake the best decision on how you want these to be applied:

support.xbox.com/.../system-update-overview . There is also a guide to follow in the article about how to manually update if that is what you prefer. I hope this helps and prevents you from a major set back again.

If you check Settings > System > Updates, you should see options (in checkboxes) to enable automatic updating.

From what I can tell by these options, only system updates are applied after the console is turned off, even when in energy-saving mode. Game/App updates can be automatically downloaded in the background, but only while the console is turned on.

Some people say that games and apps are automatically updated while the console is turned off in "Instant-On" mode, but I can't find any exact confirmation on this now.

Hi Cowboy! Let me ask, when was the last time you power cycled your console? I went through a stretch of time where my automatic updates weren't, y'know, updating automatically, and a hard reset fixed the issue. But yes, the games SHOULD be updating automatically
in the background while the console is asleep in Instant On mode.

It will download automatically when you start the game up while connected to Xbox Live. If there is an update, it will prompt you immediately.

If there is an update or patch for the game, it should download automatically if you load up the game while connected to LIVE. You won't find these listed in the Marketplace.
