Automatic Refunds Due to Gold

Quite a time ago, I purchased Goat Simulator (not really worth the money) and recently tried to play it without an Xbox Live Gold membership. I have complete memory of purchasing the game and yet, I was unable to play due to my membership having been expired.
I then remembered that I had gold for a time when Goat Simulator was actually free to purchase. Earlier this year, I was also given a credit amount of $5.00 for completing a Game Pass quest, even though I have no recollection of ever finishing the quest. I
wonder, could this be that I was automatically refunded for the game?

Xbox Live hard to cancel

I have called them and even if you meant to cancel after the charge has been made for the next period they won't give you any sort of refund. I was only one day late in calling to cancel and I still could not get a refund with them. The only thing they would do is not automatically renew it when came due again.

You can also try checking Sign in to your Microsoft account to see if it shows a purchase of the game. If the game was never actually paid for and you only got it through games with gold, then it would only be playable
with a gold subscription.

It's possible that you got it free and downloaded it then. Then once gold expire you simply lost privileges to play the game. I would still check with Microsoft on the website to make sure you haven't paid for it or maybe did get refunded for the game. Best

You can log into your Microsoft account on the website and navigate to recent purchases and select to get help with the order or you can visit Contact Us | Xbox Support and
open an online support chat with the Xbox support team to request the refund. Please note purchases on the Xbox Store are final but you may qualify for a once-off refund.

 

You should be able to verify this at https://account.microsoft.com by signing in, then going to Payment & Billing then Order History. All purchases, credits, etc. will show up here. I would guess that the $5.00
credit was for some other action and not a refund for a game.
