Autobots: Roll Out

Is it just a fighting game? but with Transformers?

Or is it a proper level based game?

 

There's a story to play through.

As much as I love "Transformers" many reviews are saying it sometimes feels like it's somewhere between a full game and a downloadable title.

Those same reviews are still rating it well though.

It may be a little like the first "Crackdown".

They went for quality over quantity and made a great game.

 

Great fun if you loved the cartoon and a good game to boot.

It starts off a little frantic and you have a quick go as all of the Autobots before it settles down to the story and lets you choose who you want to be.

You can play the game as any of the characters immediately. You can swap between them anytime or you can stick with your favourites.

The combos are straightforward but very visually impressive throwing in transformation attacks.

So you'll be hammering an enemy and a button prompt for a "vehicle attack" will allow you to transform and carry on the combo ramming them as a car. You can then transform back and continue the combo further.

The game is like a friendly "Bayonetta" with enemies you can immediately recognise and a story that makes sense from the very beginning.

There are some minor different things that may be minorly annoying to different people (i find accessing the map is a little clunky, some people may not like the skill game used to upgrade technology)...

But overall the game is so perfectly like the cartoon and controls so well it's easy to forgive any niggles because it's fun to play and has nailed "Transformers: The Original Series" perfectly.

 

^Thanks Az, but how long have you spent on it so far? Looking to be a 4 hour experience or what? Haha, that's what I'm most curious about, it's nearly a given buy being similar to the original cartoons.

 

Apparently "Vanquish" was 4 hours long.

4 hours long if you were a certified Ninja who played Platinum Game titles and "Ninja Gaiden" as a quiet way to relax when you wanted a break from being a superhuman assassin.

But it was a shorter run for those that could master it though you were encouraged to play it through multiple times to get the most out of it.

I've been playing this off and on since I got it on Saturday but still couldn't give you an accurate assessment of how much time the game takes. I simply don't know.

I do know looking at the achievements that the developers want you to return to the story multiple times as there are acheivements for completing the game with each of the 5 characters.

It all boils down to if its fun or not and so far it is. That could change as I progress and if it does I'll say so but so far so good.

 

You just gave me a pretty accurate assessment of how long I would spend on the game because I would play the campaign through with every character for sure so that would be at least 20 hours right there, if we go by the 4 hours.

I guess I was more interested in a total of hours you could likely spend on the game and not what the campaign length is start to finish because I got the feeling that this game might be a single campaign playthrough and you're done, much like Murdered:
Soul Suspect, glad to hear it's not.
