Auto-renewal cancellation support page is WRONG

I've read threads and threads about the complete inability of people to cancel auto-renewal for their XBox Gold accounts, and it was only in some of these threads that I got an answer or part of one.

Of course, the answer on Microsoft's own support site clearly states that this is possible online, but as so many have clearly discovered, that is complete and utter crap as no option is presented when a user navigates to that section of their My Accounts-Subscriptions
area (at least that's not the case when I try i and I have asked friends and colleagues with Gold subs to check too - they don't see that option either).

and the steps if describes for canceling auto-renewal are simply wrong.

There is not ONE SINGLE WORD on that page about calling regional support numbers and talking to billing, no links to regional support numbers in the event that you might actually want or need to talk to a human being, etc.

If we as paying customers are going to be forced to make a phone call to make a simple change like this to our accounts, how about you update the freaking support page with that information and save us the time of having to mine the forums to get an answer?

I mean come on, folks...you're supposed to be a web-savvy company.

How to turn off auto renewal

It is recommended that you cancel your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership using the option of turning off automatic renewal. If auto renewal is "off", your membership will expire at the end of its current term.

Steps to follow:

1) If you are not already signed in, click Sign In at the upper right hand corner and sign in using your Microsoft account.

2) Proceed to My Account.

3) Click Change next to automatic renewal. Change the setting to OFF

You will be able to continue enjoying all the benefits of Xbox LIVE Gold Membership until your paid membership time expires.

Note:

If you want to cancel or disable your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership immediately, you should contact Xbox support. Use the Request a Call from Support option on the official Xbox Contact Us page. Your account cannot be canceled through chat or email.

If you disable your account immediately, you will lose the time remaining on your membership subscription.

If you are on a 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract, and you want to cancel before the end of the 2 years, you will be charged an Early Termination Fee and other applicable taxes. Once the two-year agreement period is over, your account will not be renewed automatically.

You can cancel the 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract using the option of self-cancel your subscription on Xbox.com

Have you tried to call the Phone support? They can cancel the auto-renewal if the page is having problems

 

Right at the bottom of the page you linked:

End your membership immediately

To cancel your membership immediately, contact Xbox Support. If you cancel immediately, you lose access to the service for the remainder of your paid subscription period.

Regional phone numbers are not listed but the link provided allows you to set up a call back.

 

I seriously doubt this person wants to cancel their subscription. That was never once mentioned in the post. They just wants to turn of auto renewal. I've been trying to do the same.

 

If you would like to cancel your auto renewal of the service and are having trouble doing so on the website then call phone support and they can turn off the auto renewal for you.

 

^ Shouldn't have to do that. There's no reason why the option to do it on the website is gone.

 

If you choose not to do that then it is your choice entirely. You could also check Settings>Accounts>Memberships on your console to see if there's an option to turn it off there as well.
