Auto-Language setting has really got my goat

So I have a Japanese Xbox 360. This has led to some limitations in my Xbox gaming life (I can't play Dishonored/Tomb Raider/FIFA because of region locking and the high cost of imports), but overall I love my 360.

I loved Dark Souls II and looked forward to Dark Souls II. I knew it was region free (like the first one) so I bought a PAL copy from a Game store in the UK. Popped it into my xbox and it works!

This is a scary ritual for me as sometimes the region lock isn't clear from the packaging - I have two copies of Skyrim and a FIFA 14 just laying around unplayed.

But it works and I'm stoked...then I notice the menus are in Japanese...there's the terms and conditions (I think, long text followed by what looks like a yes/no prompt at the bottom) all in Japanese...I click through to the game (just pressing stuff)...the
game starts...the level area is described in Japanese...I...can't believe my luck. I go online looking for a solution...and this is what I found:

1. The game auto-detects your region and loads the language for that area. My console was bought in Japan so it loads that language...regardless of what I want.
   
2. There is NO way to change the language from within the game.
3. Playstation 4 players had the same problem and got around it by changing the language settings on the console. Then it's fine.
   
4. PC gamers also found this to happen, change the region/timezone etc the game auto sets the correct language.
   
5. The game has determined that I have a Japanese console, but not that I have set the system language to English. It doesn't give two ***.
   

This is really bad. I've already complained to the NAMCO Bandai user support, but they haven't replied. Don't look like they will - another gamer had already emailed them about the same problem a couple of months before to no avail. Meanwhile they have these
huge multi mega byte downloads tweaking the game attributes...but no mention of fixing a really stupid assumption.

If anybody knows these guys...or knows who to pass on my issue to...please do...in the meantime the game goes to the "Region Locking Ruined my Gaming" shelf at home.

GTA V Launguage Problem

Game and Language setting

Hi All,

I've got an XBOX360 with the language setting as English UK and the region as UK. We live in The Netherlands. We've got a game that only has French and Dutch language. My kids understand dutch, but playing the game (with the above settings) the default
language is French. How can we force this to Dutch and not French?

Have you tried to change the locale of your console? That just might help. Me and a friend of mine who both live in Finland got fed up with games being in Finnish (you just DON'T translate games in Finnish, NEVER!!!) and there were no language options in-game.
So, what we tried was to go to the console settings and we changed the console locale (the UK). (Note! This is not the same as chaning the profile region!) Then we launched the games affected by the horrible translations and voila, all English. So if the game
has multiple languages on the disc, I see no reason why that trick wouldn't work. That is also the reason why it says I'm from the UK and all leaderboards etc. that show your flag have the flag of UK for me

 

I am in exactly the same situation and have the same problem. Changing the system locale does not correct the problem on Japanese systems. Perhaps European systems are different because they don't make distinct versions for each European country, so it's
possible to change the language. The Japanese system appears to be different.

I've been emailing various companies for the last several months, and haven't received any help at all. I'm starting to think that no one really cares since there probably aren't many people in this situation...at least, not enough to actually warrant any
corrective coding.

Seriously considering switching over to Sony. I've been supporting Microsoft since the original Xbox, but between this and the constant region locking issues, I'm getting a little fed up.
