    Auto Install Not Working on Xbox One Series X


    Xbox games purchased through the Microsoft Store on the web will not automatically install on my Home Xbox. This has been a problem since upgrading to the Xbox Series X.

    To reproduce:

    1. Go to any Xbox game details page on Microsoft.com, e.g. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/halo-the-master-chief-collection/9ntm9hxnlszx
    2. Buy the game
    3. A prompt comes up that says the game is auto installing on my home Xbox, but it doesn't actually install
    It doesn't matter if my home Xbox is on or off, games will not automatically install either way.

    If, after buying a game, I let the page refresh and go through a few additional manual steps: click 'Install on my devices', select my home Xbox and click 'Install now' ... then the game will install. So the remote install feature generally works when I intentionally request an install. It's just auto install that does not work with the Series X.

    Settings:

    • Power mode: Instant-on
    • When Xbox is off, turn off storage: enabled

    Does it seem odd that my home Xbox does not have a check mark / is greyed out, and the 'Install now' button is greyed out too?

    I'm having the exact same problem.

    I have purchased a bundle with Grand Theft Auto V, Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto V: Story Mode (Xbox Series X|S)

    I've logged in on my Xbox Series X and it is downloading the normal version of Grand Theft Auto and not the Xbox Series X|S version.

    I've deleted all data and it is still downloading the normal version. I've even logged in on XBOX online and tried installing remotely but still no joy.

    Hello again, you have GTA 5 for Xbox One, because to access this content it needs you to have purchased the game and installed it in your console.

    There appears to be an issue with the Xbox Series X/S version of Grand Theft Auto V being compatible with the Xbox One Xbox One X version. Therefore, the Xbox Store may not allow you to purchase the Xbox Series of the game if you have an Xbox One.

    Buy the Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V. This version of the game is compatible with Xbox One X and is cheaper than the Xbox Series X/S version. I'm not sure but I think it's no longer available to buy in the store.

    If you decide to upgrade your Xbox One X to an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you can do so through the Xbox Store or an authorized retailer.

    NO! Unlike some games that have an Xbox One version that will upgrade to the the S|X version if you put it in a series X, NBA2K for S|X is a complete different version than the Xbox One version and it will not work if you put the disc inside of an Xbox One. Xbox One cannon run a Series X game and putting a Series X disc inside an X1 will not install the X1 version.
