    Australia tax on digital prices!

I really want to go digital this gen but again I just feel like I'm being ripped off!

halo mcc $68 in the shops $99 online, sunset overdrive $68 in the shops $89 online. It's not a small difference I don't understand why we're are being punished?

going digital will it be the same

Just to clarify bf3 premium on PC in Australia was $50. This was the same as U.S price so nothing extra was added on that digital purchase. Also Apps from Apple have dropped to near equivalent prices since we started to make a fuss over the discrepancy.
If I buy something from overseas on eBay under a certain amount it avoids import taxes. Digital is no different.

The only store that is selling those games at that price is Big W. EB Games has them for $89 each. JB Hifi is selling them at $79. The reason the stores are selling them at that price is because they chose to. Stores like
Big W are part of one of the two largest retail groups in the country. They have the buying power to undercut the price of any competition.

As I said, the store chooses to sell it cheaper.

As Zen said, the stores can choose to do that. Retail stores have the ability to change their prices because of other factors. Digital prices are set by the publishers and are generally set at MSRP because that's how much they want to sell them for.

If it is only down to the publisher then why are the games usually cheaper on the PC? Surely they'd want the most money possible?

It's not going to be totally down to the publisher, but that is a large portion of the reasoning. Different licensing fees they may own to Microsoft (or Sony) that they don't have with the PC versions can affect the prices too.

If i switch my location over to US and access the american store the games are only $60 ($69.11 AUD) yet the same file here costs $99 its the same publisher!

So Zen you are saying that the xbox store chooses to rip us off?

No. They are selling the games at the recommended retail price. All stores can sell the game at that price if they want to.
