audio to soundbar doesn't work for dvd's and games, but does for Netflix

Can anyone help an old dad out? audio to soundbar doesn't work for dvd's and games, but does for Netflix :)

My son has an XBox 360, and I have the HDMI out to a monitor, and digital audio out separately to a soundbar. The soundbar also is capable of using RCA.

He can watch Netflix fine - and on games his headset audio works fine - but I can't get the audio to the soundbar on games or playing dvd's. I've tried each of the setting options - Dolby stereo, 5.1, the other one. On the games, as it's loading and going
into the menus there is sound, but when the game actually starts to play, just a buzz. The same for DVD's.

Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if this is a "Doh....!" solution.

    :)

    Connection Sound Bar Using HDMI

For reference, HDMI ARC is meant for a TV to send the sound it receives from something like its digital TV tuner "upstream" to your soundbar.

The way you have it set up physically is correct, just that its not depending on ARC (Xbox One audio gets stripped from the HDMI cable by your soundbar and sends the video onto your TV).

Try changing the audio setting on the Xbox One to Stereo Uncompressed, make sure the soundbar isn't muted, etc. Maybe your Soundbar doesn't support 5.1 uncompressed, but 5.1 compressed Dolby Digital or DTS.

Sound Bar LG SJ9 Atmos Soundbar

Got this soundbar LG SJ9, when trying to set up the soundbar, it all gets connected and working, to make Atmos sound work on the soundbar through the Xbox I have to go to Blu Ray (4K Movie) settings and check the option to let the receiver decode audio,
but when I play a normal blu ray movie, i got a message saying that I have to uncheck this option, also when trying to set up the Atmos sound option on my Xbox says that my System (soundbar) doesn't support the Atmos sound even though when playing a 4K movie
the soundbar works fine (with the option to let the receiver decode audio checked).

    Any suggestions ?
