Audio setup on series x

Just "upgraded" to series X from one X. 5.1 audio worked fine on one X but series X does not allow me to select. However, I can put series X in manual HDMI mode and select 5.1 but, when I do, it doesn't allow me to enable 4K or HDR10. **** is going on?

How do I enable 5.1 on my brand new series X?

Long story short. If I auto-detect display mode, I can do 4k but stereo audio. If I manual HDMI, I can do 5.1 audio but only 1080p/no HDR10.

I'm still having issues, but I think it may be my audio setup on my series x console. I'm going to experiment with it.

I was unable to get my 5.1 audio setup to work. I made many support calls. Here are two ticket numbers: 7*****9 and 7******9. You'll note the first thread dates back to November 2021 -- over one year ago.

I know my audio system works with Xbox products because my Xbox One X works just fine and sees the 5.1 audio correctly. And I have it configured in the exact same way.

I have re-configured, reset, disabled, and re-cabled. Nothing works. And the reason nothing works is the there is a bug in the Xbox Series X system itself. No one was able to solve my problem. Nor was I able to get any information on IF this issue is being worked on (or even just acknowledging that the product team recognizes that this IS a problem with the Xbox Series X).

This has been a very frustrating experience. Even though most of the support people are sympathetic, they acknowledge that there's nothing they can do. Nothing.

Long story short, I am returning my Xbox for a refund. I will probably upgrade to a PS/5 even though I've been an Xbox user for many years.

It’s not connected to my controller. Although I have tried that as well. But I have an Astro A40 connected to a Mixamp pro TR which is connected to a Astro Audio Extractor. ( Since the new consoles don’t have an optical port) and the Audio Extractor is connected to my series X and TV.

Everything worked fine with this setup until about 3 weeks ago. Around the time the Series X had a firmware update.
