Audio Lag from 5.1 Optical output from XBOX ONE X

    Hi all.

I'm trying to figure out why my XBOX ONE X has trouble providing snappy audio to my 5.1 sound system. I have the console directly plugged into the channel via Optical out (via a switch) and it has a noticeable ~100ms sound delay. Like, you can tell the
sound doesn't start until after the gun is being fired in the Master Chief Collection. In all apps and games, it's just a bit behind.

This is in contrast to my 5 other system hooked up to this system. PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox, Xbox 360, all are much more punctual in terms of audio, with the One X being the exception.

My sound system is a Vizio 38-inch 5.1 sound bar, and my TV is a 60 inch Vizio M series. Audio Delay is set to 0, and all post-processing crap like TruVolume have been turned off. Xbox sound settings are correctly set to Optical Out, Dolby 5.1.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    X

    :)

    360E + Tritton Pro+ Headset QUESTION

So i picked up the 360E. We all know the console is lacking the optical port , So since my TV has optical I decided to pick up the tritton pro+ headset for use with BF4 .

    Info.

360E console connected to tv via HDMI

    Question.

I believe the TV only outputs stereo. I know the xbox outputs 5.1 So how do I get 5.1 to my headset? will a HDMI to OPTICAL AUDIO converter work for 5.1?

Will the will xbox audio be sent through my tv @ 5.1 and enter the decoder as 5.1?

How do I get 5.1 from the xbox 360E??

any help would be VERY AWESOME

  3. Cant activate 4k and 5.1 audio on Xbox one X get error 0x80bd0009

After talking with chat support, they told me it was better to post here the issue i have and LOTS of others are having aparently.

I now have the Xbox One X, with a LG 60UF850V tv (no hdr) and the TV connected with optical cable with a 5.1 home cinema.

When i had the One S, i had it working perfectly with 5.1 audio at 1080p resolution through HDMI cable.

But now with Xbox One X when i try to select 5.1 audio i get error 0x80bd0009.

I did some searching and apparently many others were having this issue on xbox one S and solution was changing Video Output from Automatic to HDMI. When i do this, i can only select 1080p resolution, not 4K. but 5.1 audio issue is solved

So with Xbox one X i can only use 4k or 5.1 audio.

Solution for now is connect optical cable directly on xbox, but i will lose 5.1 audio on TV apps, Playstation, Raspberry,...

I see people here with this issue for almost 2 years and still no fix or no word from microsoft about this

No sound on live TV with Comcast RNG110 Reciever

I had to goto my DVR box and under audio output select HDMI over PCM or Auto.

Then I ran my optical cable from the XBOX to the receiver, the receiver is set to optical input. Also I don't believe the xbox one support 5.1 yet, so you'll need to make the DVR output Stereo or DTS.

Stereo signal in a 5.1 stream

    Hi Darkstar,

The Xbox is working 100% as it should be. If the Xbox source signal is 5.1 i.e a game, then the audio stream to the receiver is 5.1 and the receiver will output 5.1 audio to the speakers. However if the Xbox audio source signal is 2.0 i.e music, then the
stream to the receiver is 2.0 and the receiver will not magically output 5.1 audio to the speakers.

This situation will happen for HDMI or optical using DTS or Dolby decoding etc. The Xbox will not simulate 2.0 up to 5.1. You will need to use one of the surround effects (simulation) on your receiver to scale the 2.0 audio to 5.1 audio. Sorry its not what
you want to hear, but this is how it works :)

First time 360 owner needs help with 5.1 Audio

Found this digging through Logitech Info, hope it helps!

The XBox 360 only outputs 5.1 over HDMI or optical, so what you need is to convert from that to the 3.5mm 5.1 channel audio line-in that your speakers need. A converter box may be very expensive; however, you should be able to find an audio/video receiver
(also called a "home theater" receiver) that will take HDMI inputs and output the audio in different formats (i.e. output your audio to a 3.5mm and let you still use HDMI for video).

    XB1 Surround Sound Issue

That's simply incorrect. The Xbox One has output surround sound since its release-- DTS and 5.1/7.1 uncompressed multichannel PCM over HDMI. Until the last update, it did not support outputting a compressed Dolby Digital bitstream, which is what is needed
for optical (because optical can't carry uncompressed 5.1/7.1). It does now, however.

OP, it sounds like you are selecting 5.1/7.1 uncompressed, which is not supported by TVs (that is for a receiver (AVR))--and that is why you can't select it when HDMI is set to Auto. Most likely your TV is just seeing it as 2.0 (stereo) audio. You need
to set the Xbox One audio to bitstream with Dolby Digital encoding. Even then, please be aware that very few TVs pass DD 5.1 from an HDMI source out though the optical out. What you may end up getting is virtual surround sound, not true discrete 5.1.

    Xbox One and turtle beach

"I like to play games and watch movies with an Astro surround-sound headset, which decodes Dolby 5.1 audio from an optical input cable. However, the Xbox One is currently only able to output stereo and DTS Digital through its optical output. My headphone
receiver can't read DTS Digital, so I have to output in stereo, and my surround headphones turn into regular old headphones. I've been asking Microsoft for the last week if they intend to add Dolby output to the optical audio port in the near future (it's
an option for HDMI output), but haven't gotten a solid answer on whether a fix is coming."
