Audio Issues when streaming from Optical cable

    Hi all,

I'm having various issues when trying to stream audio from my Xbox One S to my
Echo Studio Speaker (Dolby Atmos enabled).

I've got it set up with the Xbox connected via HDMI to my TV, then my studio speaker connected directly to the Xbox via Toslink optical cable.

    Settings:

I have HDMI Audio switched to 'off'. Then, Optical Audio is on 'Bitstream Out' and the format set to Dolby Digital (using DTS digital surround doesn't product any sound whatsoever for my speaker).

All works fine and the audio is excellent when it works, but then all of a sudden the audio will just turn really 'robot' sounding? This happens every time the xbox is powered up, and then will happen intermittently whilst the xbox is on. The only way to
fix it is by unplugging the cable and putting it back in again, OR to switch the settings to stereo uncompressed then back to bitstream again. There's also a massive audio delay when using the optical cable too.

If the optical audio is set to stereo uncompressed, then I have no issues with getting a robot sound but the sound is reallyyy quiet compared to bitstream... and I also still get the audio delay.

Is there anyway of fixing this issue?

I only have an aux out on the TV, therefore want to avoid running the audio through the tv and have it directly from the xbox.

There's no issues with the speaker as it's brand new, and works perfectly with everything else apart from the Xbox.

    Thanks!

    :)

heck if you can hear sound after you complete each step.

    1. Set the home theater or stereo system to the appropriate input and mode for the optical connection.
    2. Securely connect one end of the optical digital cable to the optical out on your TV.
    3. Connect the other end to the optical in on your home theater or stereo system.
      • The optical cable works properly if you see a red light on both ends.
    4. Try changing the channel on your TV to another digital broadcast.
    5. Go into the Sound or Speakers menu of the TV, and select External Speakers or Audio System.
      • Some TVs require that the internal speakers be turned off before outputting the audio signal to another device. This step turns off the internal speakers.
    6. For Android TV™ models, set the Digital Audio Out settings to PCM. Perform the steps below if your audio system isn't compatible with Dolby Digital or DTS.
      1. Press the HOME button.
      2. Select
        [IMG]
        Settings.
      3. Under the TV category, select Sound, Display & Sound or BRAVIA Settings.
      4. Select Audio output.
        • If you don't find this option, go to the next step.
      5. Select Digital audio out → PCM.
    7. Update your TV to the latest system firmware. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
      • Get notified about firmware updates, products alerts and more with the Support By Sony app.
    8. Try a different optical cable.
    9. If the issue still occurs, disconnect the optical cable and use an analog connection to output the sound from the TV to the audio system.
      • If the signal comes from a source device, such as cable set-top box, satellite receiver, or DVR, you can also use an optical cable from the Optical Out on the source device to the Optical In on the audio receiver and then connect
a video cable from the Video Out on the source device to the Video In on the TV.

Sound cutting off from Xbox one?

    Hi rsugden93,

Sorry you're having issues with your sound. To help narrow down the issue you should try removing things to see what could be the issue. If you're using optical audio, can you unplug this and just use the HDMI audio from the TV? If this works with
no issues, then it's likely something with the optical audio (cable, connection, dirt, ect). If you hear it on the TV after removing the optical cable, then try a new HDMI cable. As this is a random issue, it's likely something on the receiver, cable, or TV
side, and not an Xbox setting.

    Hope this helps!

Xbox 720 or whatever it's called

The A40s are headphones. MS's new console is, well, a console. As long as you can get 5.1 or 7.1 sound from the console somehow, it shoudl be fine for use with the A40s. There are HDMI switches that break out the audio stream to an optical port, though I
don't see MS dropping separate audio output from the console, be it optical or some sort of AV cable.

Xbox One S not recognizing 4K capabilities through 4K Denon receiver

Hi, how do you have the optical cable routed, if you're taking it from the Tv to the A/V unit odds are you will only get stereo audio. The best option is to connect the optical cable from the Xbox to the A/V unit.

You would also of course need to go into the audio output settings on the Xbox and turn off HDMI audio and switch to optical audio.

Just had a quick look at the user manual for that A/V. It has 2 optical inputs so you could run one optical cable from the Tv to the A/V port that's marked as Tv Audio and run another optical cable from the Xbox to the optical input that's marked as Media
Player. You may also need to check the A/V unit is set to output digital audio on that Media Player port. That could be as simple as selecting the audio format on the remote control.
