Audio is all static when playing a game. If I launch the game with different output in windows and swap it back to my headset once the game starts. Audio fixes itself.

YOUR DETAIL FIXED THE ISSUE FOR ME! I CANNOT ELEVATE THIS ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL INFORMATION ENOUGH! Thank you @AlexTede!

For the longest time, I could not understand why when I launch into remote play or a cloud game through the Xbox App on Windows the audio would be distorted, unusably broken. But if I launched a cloud game through a browser, the audio would play fine on the same configuration. I too am using a Logitech G633 headset, although I do not believe the headset is the issue, I think it's likely something with the app. After testing changing the sample rate on the headset through Windows settings that you mentioned here, I was able to resolve the audio issue with the Xbox App.

Here's the steps I followed to workaround the distorted audio issue on Windows 11 (will probably work on Windows 10 as well, just probably different menu UI):

    1. Have your headset on and set to the default audio device in Windows and the Xbox App (not sure if this is necessary, but makes sense as a step)
    2. In the Xbox App, launch remote play or a cloud game and listen to hear if you have the audio issue where it is distorted / broken
    3. Open the Windows System Sound Settings (Windows key/Start/Search for 'Sound Settings' OR in the system tray select the speaker icon > 'More volume settings'
    4. Under Output, find the headset in the list and select the arrow to the right of it access its Properties
    5. Under Output settings in the Format field, select from the dropdown to the right of the Test button, it will list a set of options in the format '16 bit, ##### Hz (X Quality)'
    6. Change this setting to any other setting
    7. Listen to hear if the audio issue is resolved

What's even stranger is it doesn't seem to matter what sample rate you choose, simply changing the sample rate from what you launched the session as will resolve the audio issue. However changing it back to the sample rate you launched with can cause the issue to return. It doesn't appear linked to the specific sample rate either, as I've tried launching into remote/cloud sessions with different sample rates set and the issue will occur at any setting, and resolve if you switch away from it. A sample rate that had issues one session can be totally fine as a workaround in another session. The issue seems to occur regardless of what sample rate you have applied. Also, after applying this workaround, the audio issue may or may not come back in your next session.

This is a workaround to an issue that appears to be related in the Xbox App or how it is communicating with Windows Sound Settings. Hopefully this information can help the Xbox App team address the issue, and help anyone else who's frustrated with their headset audio not working on PC remote play or cloud gaming.

Audio is static with xbox cloud gaming on pc.

I do have it set as default, and it appears to work in the browser just not in the xbox app for windows.

    Thanks for the feedback

    Alex, try this please:

    Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

    Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available (Install optional updates as well)

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services and update everything too.

Now, sign out from your account on both Xbox app and Microsoft Store and do this:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for Xbox app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset

    Finally do this:

Step 1: Open the Run window by pressing Windows + R key.

Step 2: Input WSReset.exe in the Run window and click OK.

Step 3: Then a command prompt window will appear. After a few seconds, Windows Store will open.

Sign in again on both Microsoft store and Xbox app with your account and double check if your headset is the preferred audio device on Xbox app:

    Open the Xbox app

Click your profile icon at the top right corner of the page

    Select "Settings"

    Select "Audio"

Set your default "Input device" to the headset or microphone you'd like to use.

Set your default "Output device" to the headset or microphone you'd like to use.

Verify that "push to talk" is not enabled

Please also double check if you have audio enhancements enabled, if yes disable it.

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.

I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today AlexTede

Are you using the Xbox app to cloud gaming, right?

Could you try using the browser to play on the cloud?

    Xbox.com/play

In the meantime, do you have your headsets as default input mode?

I'll be waiting for your reply, greetings from another Microsoft user!

Audio is static with xbox cloud gaming on pc.

That could be a reason, try using a different sample rate and bit depth, in case with one the issue persists, use a different one until you use each one.

And if you're able to do it, try with another headphones just to test how it goes
