    Atmos delay with Series X

    Hi, im getting an audio delay with Series X and my home theatre soundbar(Q870a/xy), which is true atmos compatible. setup is: Series X plugged directly into TV (Q80T) via 2.1HDMI cord, then using a 2.1HDMI cable in the eARC lot on the TV out to the soundbar.
    Games, even the menu, present an audio delay of less than a second. this is terrible for gaming. set up this way SHOULD work. everything is compatible. Q80T recognizes eARC compatible port, sees the Q870a/xy as atmos compatible and registers the Atmos confirmed by the Soundbar showing that on its screen. selecting stereo uncompressed 'fixes' the issue, except now i dont get atmos sound. plugging the series x into the soundbar directly, then feeding the soundbar into the TV 'fixes' the sound issue, but then i dont get 4K@120fps/VRR/ALLM.

    therefore, it must be a bitstream out issue with the xbox. bitstream out on the TV and its native apps doesnt present the same audio delay, in fact, no delay. the troubleshooting on this has been extensive and online research shows that this is a community-wide issue for people that want atmos audio while also getting the best video features from the xbox.

    Is there any sort of patch that you guys can get out to fix this issue?

    :)

    Dolby Atmos delay on Xbox Series X

    Well yes. The problem is constant. Whenever you’re in a game that uses Dolby atmos or even on Netflix through the series x. It needs a software patch to fix it. Delay is present on all Dolby atmos content

    Dolby Atmos delay on Xbox Series X

    Updated:

    I found that my soundbar SONY HT Z9F soundbar use HDMI 2.0 of which bandwidth is 18gbs connect to my TV using eARC port, so I changes my HDMI to

    8K HDMI of which soundbar is 48gbs, and the delay improve a lot that it is hard to notice now.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I have tested. My set is

    TV has enable eARC and set sound passthrough, HDMI BITSTREAM. XBOX SERIES allows PASSTHROUGH.

    XBOX SERIES X --> LG 65 QNED90 --> SONY HT Z9F (eARC)

    there is very noticeable delay on Atmos but don't have delay on any uncompressed sound like 5.1 or 7.1

    XBOX SERIES X --> SONY HT Z9F (eARC) --> LG 65 QNED90

    the atoms sound is sync with image, but I got a ton of delay on controller input, so I set TV image mode to Game Optimize,

    and set game mode to FPS, the controller input delay is gone, but now, i got atoms delay back...

    By the way, because my TV doesn't support DTS - X PASSTHROUGH, so when I connect XBOX to my soundbar, I could enable DTS X, and DTS X is working perfectly and there is no any delay comparing to Dolby Atmos.

    Razer Blade 15 with RTX 2070 MAX Q --> LG 65 QNED90 --> SONY HT Z9F (eARC)

    I don't have any input or atmos sound delay in this set.

    So here is conclusion:

    xbox series x has issue to passthrough Atmos content, even thought it is directly connect to sound bar, the sound or TV try to delay image to sync with atmos sound which causes a ton of input delay. But once you set the TV into low legacy input mode to get rid of input delay, the Atmos sound delay will be back.

    And Razer blade 15 with RTX 2070 MAX Q which is PC is perfectly working at Atmos without any issue.

    So this is definitely XBOX SERIES X ISSUE!!!!

    Atmos delay with Series X

    Sadly, I'm not sure about the setup as I haven't done it myself. Been trying to reach my mate but it's very early here and I guess he's still in bed. But I know you'll need a headset with HDMI to do that, but how he got it to the sound bar is what I'm not so sure about.

    Personally I'm aware of the lag, it's all over the forums. Hopefully Microsoft releases a patch to address this soon.

    Atmos delay with Series X

    Yes Liam, it's a paid feature on the Dolby app. You'll need to pay to unlock it.

    I just saw someone else did it. Check out this reply by Mattster https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/...
    Can you explain how this works, please?
    When i have plugged in my headset before, the Xbox automatically registers that a headset is plugged in and reverts to 'Stereo' sound quality (my guess is because it shifts the focus on audio to the headphones. It doesnt matter because youve got headphones on anyway, but this is my point - how are headphone settings going to fix a Home Theatre issue? Theyre separate from one another and you're saying i should pay Dolby for something that a) my headset cant actually utilize; b) isnt relevant to the issue at hand? and c) in that same comment, he has included an edit to his post: 2nd edit: atmos app works fine but I'm not getting an atmis signal anywhere else in xbox, somthing really wrong in atmos app in my view causing issues and headphone settings workaround is poor

    Hello Liam, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

    A friend recently found out that using headphones as Dolby Atmos through HDMI in the App, resolves the issue with the lag. With this setup there's a noticeable difference in sound quality but I guess that's just a trade off for the lag.

    Hope this helps.

    Jesse.
    Hi Jesse, not really sure what you mean?

    i downloaded the Dolby app as thats what you need to do to enable Atmos on Xbox. I dont have Atmos compatible headphones, just the soundbar is Atmos compatible. plus you need to pay for that feature for headphones through Dolby. So firstly, i dont think this is an option in Sound/Audio settings in the Xbox Settings; secondly, i still dont really understand the point you're making - using Dolby Atmos through HDMI in the App? what app? Dolby? Theres no option for this when you have already got it setup for Home Theatre.

    If this solution is simply a roundabout way of saying there is no fix (as you mentioned 'trade off'), then im not really sure what to say...

    Is there a way in which you, as a Community Member/Independent Advisor can raise this with Xbox/Microsoft, that would be EXCELLENT as there are hundreds of people with this same issue across forums on here, Reddit, AVR Forums. Whirlpool Forums, ResetEra, multiple manufacturer support forums (Samsung, LG, Sony, etc). etc and we just keep getting nothing from Microsoft/Xbox on it, when its a clear audio problem on their end (some saying an existing one from the Xbox One X era - which i cannot verify).
