ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ no 120hz on 1440p

The TUF Gaming VG27AQ 27-inch monitor is one of the impressive builds from the ASUS line-up. It has a native refresh rate of 144Hz and a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz. The device is powered by FreeSync and is G-Sync (NVIDIA Certified) compatible. The device offers a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440 and offers wider viewing angles.

even in the manual it stated adaptive sync which is usually both, the reason they are showing with gsync is that its on the nvidia approved list, but apparently it has all.

What ngocphi has said is somewhat true but not entirely. I'm sure they mean well but I little more explanation is required.

The Asus VG32VQ can do 120Hz at 1440P, however, the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) FreeSync on this display tops out at 85Hz over HDMI. So for Xbox, 1440P 120Hz and VRR is a no go. You should be able to get to 120Hz with VRR at 1080P though.

The inability to do 1440P @ 120Hz is a limitation of your display's hardware, nothing to do with the older HDMI 2.0 port.

Most of these monitors rated refresh is based on their Display Port hardware.

I was researching a bit more this monitor. And it seems that yes, you can use 120Hz, but maybe you need to lower the resolution to 1080p

“Over HDMI, VRR only works up to 85Hz at 1440p, but works up to 144Hz if the resolution is decreased to 1080p.”

Maybe try Asus VG27AQ. It just came out and supports 144hz + Freesync over HDMI.
