asus ssd enclosure / samsung 980 pro incompatibility?

You already tried almost everything from your side, but in order to isolate a bit more the issue or determine if the issue is with the enclosure.

Are you able to connect it to a different console to see if the issue persists?

That would be great.

If not, do you have a regular USB 3.0 drive? If yes, try connecting it to your console to see if you're able to format it and store games.

In your console, just in case please try power cycling it (disconnect any inserted disc and USB accessories first)

1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.

2. Unplug the console's power cable from the console and from the power outlet. Wait 5 minutes.

Important: Be sure to wait at least 5 minutes. This step resets the power supply.

3. Plug the console power cable back in.

4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on and give it a new try

Do you have close a PC?
If that's the case could you try connecting the SSD first there and format it as NTFS?

After that connect it again to your Xbox and see if you can now format it to store games

yes i have done that thanks.

i have tried mbr / gpt , ntfs extFat, i have tried plugging the drive in unformatted.

i have it showing up but only for the purposes of adding files to it , it will

not give me any options to format it even though i have tested multiple usb drives, the only difference is i am using a 3rd party asus ssd enclosure with a samsung 980 pro.

the only thing i am not 100% sure of is the cable i am using to connect it with - the cable i had that came with it was a usb c to usb c cable, so i have used the cable from the controller and another cable i had lying around with same connectors .
