Assigning Gamertag to different Email Address

Thank you for taking the time to reply to this thread.

When you thinking of changing the email [alias] of your account, this merely changes the way that you sign in to your account. You will receive notifications of purchases and such to the new alias, but the original email associated with your account is still
independent.

If there was an option on the Xbox 360 to change the Microsoft account that is linked with your Xbox Profile, that is no longer an option, however, it is likely that it worked the same way that changing how you sign in to your Microsoft account [changing
your alias].

As far as changing your display name on your Forums profile, this can be done by going into your profile and on the left-hand side you can see the option to
Edit profile. You can then change your Display Name.

Sorry, so what kind of services are shifted when you change the alias?

Say I have Account 1 and Account 2. Account 1 has all my games but I now want to log in using Account 2. If I can do that, what other services would be affected by this change? Would it just be my Xbox log in? From what you're saying it seems the email and
Skype contacts and the like remain separate, so I'm just a bit confused on what actually changes if you switch Alias.

If Account 1 with all the games belonged to my Partner, would I be able to change the log in to my email, but have my Partner receive all their emails and keep everything else associated with their account?

As for the option on the Xbox 360, the option is still there, I selected it. It just returns an error when trying it though. Thanks for the tip on changing my display name

Thanks for coming to the forums. Unfortunately, you are unable to just move a gamer tag only to a different email. The only thing you can do is change the email so the account is then tied to the new email, which will have the gamer tag tied to it. However,
if the email you are wanting to use, already has a gamer tag associated to it. You will not be able to change the email. The link the assistant directed you to is great for changing the primary email.

Hi, thanks for the response. Could you just clarify something up for me?

When you say I should change the email to tie the account to the new email, what would tying my account to the new email do? What transfers over and what doesn't? Would I receive all my email on the new email address?
Would my Skype contacts from the old email address be visible on the new email address?

There is an option in the Xbox 360 settings to change the Microsoft Account that is linked with your Xbox Profile, is there no longer any way of doing that? The option is still in the settings, but it just doesn't seem
to work.

Also, how do I edit my display name on these forums? Thanks

Thank you for replying.

If you change the alias, you will only be changing what email you use to sign in to the account. You can add another alias to your account and use that as the Primary alias
as long as this is not already associated with another Microsoft account.

Additionally, as long as the email does not belong to a Microsoft domain [MSN, Hotmail, Outlook, Xboxfamily, etc] you can also remove that email from the account as well to have only your email or phone used to sign in to the account with all the games.
[If your account was originally created using Microsoft domain, and you remove this from the alias list, you will delete that email permanently so be careful.]

Changing the alias also will not change how emails are received to the original email of the account.
