Thanks again though, I know you meant well but tbh mate, I'd say for you, steer clear of this game. Even with my help a novice like you won't get anywhere. The way you talk, anyone would think you've had real life experience of racing on tracks ;-p

 

@Lofty. I am assuming you haven't played online yet? That part is broken.

The devs have just announced a second patch to address the performance issues on Xbox One. Should happen early next week.

I am not prepared to support broken unfinished games that cost $90. Will revisit if/when patched with more features.

 

It's amazing to think that in 1998 on my Nintendo 64 with "F-1 World Grand Prix" I was able to play a full Grand Prix with Friday practice, Saturday Qualifying and a full lap Grand Prix that has fuel management, tire degradation and even let the engine blow
if you pushed it too far.

Fast forward 18 years and fuel is barely an issue... tires are indestructable... engines last longer than the 1080p debate and qualifying sessions are un-heard of and a race over 6 laps is considered long.

Bring back "F1-World Grand Prix" and "Test Drive Le Mans".

 

Try F1 2016,you can have a full race weekend if you want.2 x 90 minute practice,1x 60 minute practice,60 minute qualifying if you get through to Q3,full length race with full simulation damage,tyre wear,fuel management,dynamic weather,the lot.

Had my first puncture on it yesterday as I pushed my tyres to far.

Not tried the MP as no private lobbies or ghost lobbies but I see the Devs will be adding them. Apologies though, when I read your post I thought you meant the SP was broken, I know sometimes we can all get different experiences but in about 6 hours of play
I've had zero problems with the SP game.

Like Badger said above, try F1 on a Full Race Weekend, even Forza can be made a lot more difficult by turning off assists, damage on etc. I think the trouble is a lot these days, people want more out of racing games but don't actually tinker with the setting
to have the experience they want but the options are there.

Assetto Corsa though is tough on any difficulty lol Finally a racing game where you can't just hold RT at the go and simply press LT to get yourself around the corners. This makes you work for results.

I'll say again though it lacks the polish of titles like Forza, I can see it being a marmite game,either love it or hate it but if you like a challenge, have the time to learn each track then from on my time on it so far I'd highly recommend trying it somehow.
I'm not saying pay full price, rent it , borrow from a friend etc For me it's been worth it so far

Now we've got the house sorted and I have my own games room I think it's time to invest in another wheel. Wife wasnt too happy before when it was all over living room

Side note, most wheels now are compatible with both XB1 and PS4. Few driving games out/coming out that I'll want on both systems

No mate, F1 is about as sim as I like tbh anything more will just frustrate me!

I've just ordered that wheel up myself, currently using the cheap Spider one from Argos but thought I deserved a treat ;

I've been looking into a few different wheels but I've been told ( not sure how true or not it is ) but not all wheels are compatible with both XB1 & PS4 & no way I'm I buying two lol

Once I've chose the wheel I'll get a stand.

I've said it before though. I much prefer using a wheel with any driving game, just feels so much better but I can never get as good lap times with a wheel than I can with a joypad. I think though I've never gave them enough time to get use to it. Now I've
got my own room and don't have to worry about the wife complaining the wheel is cluttering up the place I'll be able to give them a proper go so your all doomed, I'm that far ahead now, imagine how much you lot will be lagging behind once I've mastered the
wheel ;-p

Assetto Corsa can get frustrating though. Weird thing is though, I never like any game that frustrates me, the fun goes and I only game for fun but I might say "Right had enough now"... 5 minutes later I just want to get back on it. It just keeps pulling
me back but as I said before, definitely a marmite game, your love or hate it.

I will order a wheel next week but let us know how you get on with yours when it turns up mate.

 

Yeah the one I've just ordered is Xone/PC only not PS4 - I don't think there is one that does all 3 mate, it's either Xbox/PC or PS/PC.

I've not really played a racer in years without a wheel now, I just don't like the twitchy pad feeling of steering. I find the braking the hardest thing to get used to but am so much smoother in corners than a pad.

Wheels are also so much more immersive I find.

Will need a seat as well.Being an ex racer I need to be in the right position lol,i'm fussy

Racing at tracks like Monaco is when you really realise you need a wheel instead of a controller.A controller just can't handle the fast direction changes needed for a good lap.

Lofty, thinking about it I'm not sure if Fanatec do one that does all 3 but I'm pretty sure Thrustmater and Logitech are tied to one console. If not I'm sure she'll never even notice if you have two giant wheels set up

Badger, yeah the 920 seems to be the fave choice for Xbox, the Logitech one looks like it has some reliability problems. Are you thinking of going full cockpit type set up then? I've got this

Use it with a cheap tub chair from somewhere like The Range and it's quite a comfy position.

 

Not sure yet.Need to decide if I want something I can set up permanently or something I can fold up & hide away when not in use.
