How does this have nothing to do with the Xbox One?

Microsoft may have to completely reinvent the console to stay competitive in the next 12 months. They have already hinted at it with Win 10 and the ease of porting PC games.

Some of you just want to put your hands over your ears and do the "lalalalala" so you don't have to hear the possibilities but it won't stop it from happening.

 

We all have to adapt to different times different policies. Yep you right Randver these X BOne owners thing ignore and it go away. You can't ignore evolution.

One thing bothers me with regards next gen is the price of games on PS4 and XBOne in the shops. New console = more greed. Alien Isolation on Steam is cheaper then even 360 and PS3 and no doubt that running in 1080 P too. It could take a while for people
to adapt but it got potential and next gen is hardly steam rolling the market at the moment.

Drive Club is struggling Sunset Overdrive is a sub standard 900 P game, Halo MC collection hardly awe inspiring to make even the die hard Halo fans run to the shop and pick up a One.

That just leaves FH2 no one going to purchase a console to play a game on. Then generation so far is a huge disappointment with so far very little to offer and the longer that goes on regards both MS and Sony then more power to Valve and their respective
partners.

 

Next gen consoles won't come out until 2020 (i guess),a bit too early to think what to get next.

Steambox is a PC....Nothing to do with consoles.

Also,having a brand that do not build is own platform,do not support it by making exclusive titles and having a service that you can get on other platforms (PC/MAC)....I'm not interested.

I don't even see what's the appeal....Maybe for people who doesn't have PC and console.

A console is nothing more than a dummied down PC than uses a TV as a monitor.

Steam Box will have exclusive titles. What do think Valve is?

I honestly don't see there being a next "next gen" console. I think we'll see the consumer deciding when it's time to upgrade.

 

I thought we would see these 'steam box's this current generation? If it's a box that does what any PC does with steam, then I think I might be interested in it as I don't have gaming PC.

If it just runs mobile type games and indies, then I wouldn't be so inclined.

 

Valve will make exclusive titles only for Steambox ? Really ? How many ? When ?....

Consoles can't be upgraded....Steambox can....and PC too.

 

I just don't think there is much to worry about, the Steam Box may provide a stiff competition which may be a win for current console owners, and there will still be people, like me, that don't want to deal with upgrades to keep up with new games, or part
replacements.

And then factor in that Live is a excellent online service for filtering out a lot of cheaters(so I hear).

I think in the end, if Steam Box becomes a gaming console platform, gamers will win.

Edit: for the first part, I also wanted to say that people will also know what to expect with a X1 or PS4, instead of needing to upgrade in order to achieve the level of graphics studios are advertising.

 

I'm not against either,but i don't see for who this platform is made for....

Consoles gamers ?

Also is Steambox really competitive against a PC.

Was that sarcasm? You've played Valve's games on the 360 so I assume you know who they are and their games.

If you're concerned about cheaters then Steam wins hands down, VAC has been the bane of the cheating inclined for more than a decade.

Face it the line between consoles and PC is blurred so much at the moment anyway.

You can write play games on the Xbox One and listen to your music from Amazon at the same time. You can use the online version of Microsoft Office to do office work on either the 360 or Xbox One.

Consoles are a hop, skip, and a jump away from being a optical driveless 'PC' that the difference shouldn't really matter.

Face it for most people what they actually do on a PC isn't that far away from what they could do on a console. If my Xbox 360 could move music to my Android phone I think I could happily do away with my laptop.

The biggest difference I think would be in user made content, PC gamers do like mods (something which doesn't have such negative connotations on the PC).

Console gamers tend to make a distinction based on the hardware but in a reality your console is still a computer. You basically have a mini-tower with a simplified operating system.

Anyone who owns a PC (desktop or laptop) already has a "Steam Box". The retail ones are simply making it easier for people that are not tech savy to make the transition. What we are waiting for is the Steam OS to be finished but you can currently use Windows
7 or 8 and have a fully functioning Steam Box.

This is the real "all in one" device.

 

As you said,i even played Half Life on PS2....Not sarcasm,just reality,Valve do not makes exclusive titles for Steambox,that's my point.

I didn't said that they doesn't make games.

 

A console is plug and device,not upgradable.

A PC or Steambox are upgradable.

Valve makes one of the current most played and popular video games on the planet that is exclusive to Steam........DOTA 2 and it's 10 million players.

In addition to their source SDK and everything that goes along with it.
