"Are you mad!?" "Yes; the name's Max, BTW..."

This game has mediocre written all over it. I hope I'm wrong and it's another good game to play, but it looks like the epitome of "mediocre". My guess is it will get a 5/10 average rating.

Wow, bran, that's a 1st for this thread - everyone else seems to really like this game. Tell me, why do you think it's going to be mediocre? Is it because it takes some of the best ideas from other great games and uses them instead of doing something original
or unique or all its own? Because I gotta tell you, as unoriginal as it may seem, I certainly don't mind.

 

It has to be because of what I said GG. Movie Tie In games are always mediocre. My personal favorite was X-Men Origins Wolverine. The story was awful, but my lord was the gameplay awesome. It was nice to finally unleash as Wolverine.

I will say this, Mad Max does seem like it will be different from other movie affiliated games. Still on the fence though

 

While games based upon movies have been bad in general, it doesn't mean they all are or will be. The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (like Doc said), and even the newer Batman games to an extent have all been great
examples of movie or popularly-franchised games done right - I think Mad Max, from the looks of this trailer, is going to fall into that positive, but relatively small, category of games.

The ONLY concern I have is just how limited in scope the game may actually be. Sure it has a lot of things you can do, but just how far can you go to do them? Destiny's a good example of what I'm talking about - it promised a lot, but actually delivered
very little. With Mad Max, I have to wonder:

Just how much can you customize your car?

How big is the world to explore?

How deep is the combat system?

How good is the story/character interaction?

How faithful is it to the films?

...and so on.

IMO, movie tie-in games always will be "mediocre". They will always have an element of 'letting you down'... built right in.

Why? Well, considering most people (with the obvious few exceptions) who get the game will do so because of the related movie, there is that natural comparison that we make between
them. Of course we realize that playing a game is different than seeing it as a movie, but we still tend to tie how the movie experience made us feel to the game.

The problem is, that takes away a bit of the suspense aspect. In a movie, the hero does what s/he does and you have no control over it. A game allows you to do things the way you
want them to be done. Which may, or may not, be as thrilling, exciting, funny, dramatic, nail biting, edge of your seat enjoyable as the movie.

It's a psychological thing, I guess. Or at least that's my view on it.

 

Well for starters it just looked bad. They try to over emphasise the fact that you can upgrade your car. That'll be boring in an hour. It just doesn't look fun. It looks like you might get a night or 2 of fun. Remember the Bourne Supremacy for Xbox 360?
This reminds me of that except with driving.

I tend to be on the fence about this game and have been since I first heard about it.
Considering what I said in my last post, combined with the fact that my concerns fall along the same lines you mentioned, I have to say that the videos always look good and make me
want to get excited about it. But after that initial excitement subsides and the 'realistic' side of my brain starts to process it...

I keep getting this nagging feeling that says 'Post-apocalyptic Grand Theft Forza Horizon in SP mode.' I know I'm in the minority, but I only played one of the GTA games. Didn't
even get through the next one before I was bored almost to tears.

 

Being a realist isn't a bad thing, but don't let it get in the way of hope.

I for 1 like to remain positive, even though, like you, I will reserve judgement - I probably won't buy it until I hear more or until it releases, but what they have shown so far, IMO, is pretty darn good for a 1st look; remember 1st-impressions are key,
and this hits on almost every level. After all, why not be excited about it? It's way more fun!

So, keep your opinion, but get your head out of the gutter!

Interesting hand to hand combat

If this game was co-op it might have taken over my gaming for a solid year.
