Hello everyone! I am a certified to service microsoft products through UBREAKIFIX. After 13 years in the business of repairs, I can not be more dissapointed. After much research and trials we have discovered that you CAN NOT replace or wipe the M.2 style drives in new gen xbox consoles. It appears that the drives are in a way married to the motherboard. I would be happy if anyone could enlighten me of a way to complete this. I now have a expensive paperweight simply because microsoft seems to object self/right to repair. any insight is appreciated but not required. I hope this helps someone before it is too late.

    :)

We cannot assist with self repair.

Is it possible to connect an SSD drive through an adapter?

we cannot help you with self repair or modification
Reading the thread again, it's not a self repair or a modification. The drive is an NVME SSD inside a USB NVME drive enclosure. Similar to putting an SATA SSD in an enclosure like I did with a spare Crucial MX500 drive.

My advice would be to try a different enclosure. But the drive here is way OTT for the Xbox. It's read speeds are around 3,000MB/s but the USB 3.1 ports on Xbox console max out at 500MB/s. Should have purchased a cheaper SATA SSD and an enclosure or SATA to USB 3.1 adaptor.

    OPTICAL DRIVE

I heartily recommend against a self repair in the Xbox One.

As with the Xbox 360 before, the optical drive is cryptographically "married" to the console motherboard. While there had been instructions on the web for the 360 to exchange drives, the process of "marrying" the drive to the console is not fully understood,
and lead to console bans and bricked consoles after a console update.

So I'd say a self repair is usually either not doable, or sooner or later leads to buying a new replacement console anyways, after the console has been banned/bricked.

If you already opened the Xbox One console, Microsoft will also not accept it for repairs anymore. So your only option then is to buy a new console.

Will any SSD be compatible with the Xbox Series S?

basically it has to be an expensive proprietory ssd that is basically a version of m.2 nvme.

    Ssd nvme m.2

    Hi,

Unfortunately no. The USB 3.1 ports on the Series X have a maximum transfer speed of 550 MB/s. A fast Nvme would still be limited to the speed of the USB bus.

The Expansion card uses a PCIE 4.0 connection which is around 10X faster.

You can only install and play Series X games on internal or expansion card, no other drive is fast enough.
