Are Virtual Reality Headsets Going to be Successful?

Unless oculus rift has licenced parts in other VR headsets coming to market, I don't really see why its worth facebooks price.

I think VR has to be part of an experience, and without things like a 360 degrees treadmill and all the other bits I think its current market is very limited and not mass market.

The kinect is a gimmick

"Including Sony's new Virtual Reality headset they're going to try and cram down our throats."

They are welcome to cram that down mine.

3. OK Microsoft -- time for your next big move.

Their next big move shouldnt be about exclusives at all, it should be about virtual reality and competing with Sony's virtual reality headset thats already in the final stages of development.

I want nothing more than to be proven wrong but I honestly don't feel that I'll ever get the feeling of being on the edge of a building without being on the edge of a building. If I stand on something tall, the only fear I get is that if I go wrong it will
hurt. I know that I'm perfectly capable of standing still on the edge of a roof but knowing that there's no consequence for falling won't add anything, there's a limit to how real it can feel.

5. I'd rather not deal with the unfortunate ramifications of such technology if it were to progress.

6. Blimey, all these, Kinect is next gen thread, and give it time, it will get better.

But when it comes to something that could truly revolutionise the gaming/video/interaction market. Even if it produced by 3 different companies, it's all doom and gloom.

I would rather have a VR Headset with every Xbox One than a Kinect (my own opinion) as then every company would actually utilise it, instead of just the odd bit thrown in here or there

Not until holodecks. Until then, VR just get's us much closer to that experience than what we have now.

9. As most new technology, I'm very sceptical about it. I'm finding it hard to see past it being some kind of fad. You see developers tweet about it like it's the bees knees, but if the masses don't adopt it, it will never take off.

Would really just love to try it for myself though so I could have a proper opinion.

@Hairy I don't have a problem with VR, but I just can't see how its going to work, for a VR headset to work for gaming certainly FPS, not so much car games, I need to be able to turn 360 degress, which means a massive change to how I game. The kinect simply
sits on my TV stand and doesn't change anything.

3D as a concept IMO is a treat at the flicks, i don't need it at home, VR is the same, it would be a treat to go to a VR arcade (maybe), but not sure I can see it working into my home in the near future, maybe in 10 years when there is a more VR experience
beyond the headset.

11. The comfort of relaxing on your lounge with a controller in your hand vs having a VR attached to your head. I doubt the latter will take over gaming though I'm sure it will be an extra device that some might use but most probably wouldn't. Which reminds
me of something else

12.
Plus since there will be 3 different VR headsets as there is OR, Sony's Morpheus, and I hear MS is trailing behind and finally deciding to look into it....devs aren't want to make 3 different versions of their game for 3 different VR
headsets.
That's a good point. I can't imagine VR headsets having a big market, so possibly having three available may spell disaster.

Ok VR, this thread seems to be locked in it's own virtual reality world. I wish Sony luck with their VR helmet as for MS know one knows what they actually up to regards the new tech.

Ok you guys don't really don't keep up on the latest news do you ?

I was going to start a thread but it probably be locked as it's not X Box One related so I post the shocking news here........

The Oculus Rift has been sold to a another company in a 2 billion deal.

Facebook is to buy Oculus Rift! That is a shock and a serious worry to all gamers. Well not X Box One owners, but it is a kick in the teeth for anyone else that's for sure!

@WildChameleon

Actually it was brought up few times in this thread already, but you really don't care what others are saying, you just like to hear yourself speak, don't you?

On topic, VR tech is not new, it already had a run and was not successful, some of you guys might not be old enough to remember though. I would love to play with one, it could be fun, but I don't think they'll ever become popular.
