Are they for real?

My daughter bought me an Xbox One for Christmas, and I was ecstatic, until I found out that all games had to be installed to play. I have a 500gb console and with 4 games, Black Ops - 1-3 and WWII, it takes up 50% of the space. What's the purpose of having
to install all games? You still need the disc to play. It doesn't make the games play any better, they lag, and Black Ops 3 freezes and returns to the home screen. Play Station is looking a lot better Microsoft! Stop trying to rob people and get back to the
way things were!!

You have to do the same with the PS4. The way technology is today, the disc readers can't read fast enough to keep up with the game.

 

^This. If want them to go back to the way things were, then you're basically asking for games to look and play the way they did back... whenever the "were" you're referring to was. You only need the disc to play if you purchased the disc version. There is
also the option to purchase an external HDD, which solves the storage issue. In my experience, lag and CoD games is synonymous. I stopped playing that series awhile back and that was one of the biggest reasons. Threat to switch to PS #96825709682959873 logged

Bluray has a higher data transfer rate than DVD, so it isn't impossible to get games to run from a bluray disc. We know this can happen because there are several PS3 games that didn't require installation and that was only a 2x
drive.

Unfortunately because bluray runs at a constant speed, unlike DVDs variable, it meant that either sections of the game needed to be duplicated on the disc (thereby wasting the space advantage of bluray) or had massive loading times. So while games can be played
from a bluray disc, a hard drive is simply better suited for the job.

The PS4 also has mandatory installs and requires the disc in the drive to play, so you would encounter the same irritations you have now with your Xbox One.

If you don't like having the disc in place then I would either recommend buying digital only on your console or moving to the PC for gaming, where in the vast majority of cases the disc can be discarded after installation.

 

The Xbox One also has versions available with either a 1TB or 2TB HDD.

Or you could just buy an external HDD like most of us have done and stop complaining.

This being the official Xbox forum you will encounter more than the normal amount of people who simply won't accept that others aren't having the perfect experience with their console as they are with their own. Most of them are great to talk to, they just

I had exactly the same problem with my One when I bought it.

 

You have to install the games on the Playstation as well

 

Unfortunately all games have to be installed on the Xbox one and the PS4, so although you could get a PS4, you'll have the same problem.

The only current console that doesn't install games is the Nintendo Switch, as all of its physical games come on a small cartridge.
